A father and son in Maine, USA, recently went out fishing and accidentally caught an extremely rare blue lobster, which surprised them, because the catch rate of this rare lobster was only one in two million.

On August 11, Mark Rand from Portland and his 36-year-old son, Luke Rand, went fishing near Peaks Island in Casco Bay, and unexpectedly, they caught a beautiful lobster from the sea, which also had light blue spots on the part of the lobster, which was quite special.

Luke, who has 20 years of fishing experience, excitedly says they have never seen or caught a shrimp of this color.

The father and son felt very lucky and happily brought it back, but not to satisfy their appetites. They named the blue lobster Lucky Bluey and planned to display it in their own restaurant for about a week before putting it back into the sea.

According to the University of Maine Lobster Research Institute, most of the lobsters caught are dark green, and occasionally there are orange, yellow, white, multi-color, etc., of which the probability of catching blue lobsters is one in two million. Experts believe that the appearance of this lobster will appear blue, because of the "genetic defect" that causes the lobster to produce an excessive amount of specific protein, which in turn affects the body color.

In addition, the probability of yellow lobster appearing is 1 in 300,000, and the transparent and colorless lobster is 1 in 1 million.

However, experts from the research institute explain that except for white lobster, any other color of lobster will turn red once it is cooked, and there will not be much difference in taste and texture. However, most of the lobsters of this special color are very rare, and in the end, they will not become people's food on the plate, but will be brought back to the sea for release.

In fact, Maine has long been known for lobsters, and a lobster farmer in the state caught a rainbow-colored Cotton Candy lobster late last year, and the probability of catching this lobster is the same as the probability of catching a white lobster, about one in a hundred million, which is even rarer.
