The first of the ten strange cases in Hong Kong: the rich second generation evaporated after eating the supper, and the kidnappers were unevenly divided into stolen goods and infighting broke out

On the night of June 18, 1959, Huang Yingqiu, the son of a wealthy Hong Kong businessman, Huang Yingqiu, went out with a few friends for a late-night snack, and it was early in the morning after drinking and eating, and several people said goodbye to each other and drove away. The next day, the family could not contact Huang Yingsu for a long time, fearing that he would have an accident, so they came to the Causeway Bay Police Station to report the case.

Three days later, on June 21, Huang Xibin suddenly received a package, which was opened with a pair of bloodstained human ears, as well as car keys, notebooks, lighters and other personal belongings. After careful identification, the family determined that these ears were what Huang had asked for. In addition to these items, the package also contained a blackmail letter demanding that the Huang family pay half a million Hong Kong dollars as a ransom and sign the name of the wolf.

Inexplicably, The fierce Huang Xibin claimed that he never liked the "feeling of being ridden on the neck", and even called the police station to the house to discuss the measures to save his son, but he was unwilling to pay the ransom. Although in Hong Kong in the 1950s and 1960s, the monthly wages of ordinary workers were only a few tens of Hong Kong dollars, half a million Hong Kong dollars is undoubtedly an astronomical number. But for Huang Xibin, who made his fortune from oil and had a lot of money, this little money could not shake the foundation of the family business. What's more, the eldest son, Huang Yingqiu, is not an idle, spending time and drinking brother, he once served as an Allied interpreter in World War II, experienced artillery fire, and has been helping his father take care of the family business before disappearing.

In order to collect useful clues, the Hong Kong police offered a reward of 5,000 Hong Kong dollars as a bounty, and Huang Yingqiu's wife even offered 50,000 Hong Kong dollars to hang red, but the case was like a stone sinking into the sea, and for a while there was no clue.

A year and a half later, on February 10, 1961, at about 8:00 a.m., Huang Xibin drove to work as usual, but was kidnapped by three gunmen wearing wolf masks on the way. Soon, the Huang family received another extortion letter with a ransom of half a million yuan, and the signature was still a wild wolf. With the lessons learned from the disappearance of the eldest son last time, this time the Huang family obediently offered a ransom of half a million yuan according to the requirements of the kidnappers. After receiving the ransom, the kidnappers kept their promise and quickly released Huang Xibin.

Huang Xibin, who regained his freedom after nearly seventeen days of captivity, was silent in the face of numerous questions from the police and the media, saying only that he had been blindfolded the whole time, knew nothing about the kidnapper's vehicle, residence, and appearance, and even did not admit that the Huang family paid a ransom of half a million yuan to the kidnappers. Huang Xibin's refusal to cooperate has once again brought the case to an impasse.

Who knows, a year after the case occurred, the sudden appearance of a young man has made new progress in the case, and the fog has gradually become clear.

The man who suddenly appeared, named Deng Weiming, 21 years old, nicknamed Snake Zaiming, was also one of the participants in the double yellow kidnapping case, but he was actually just a little brother who was responsible for running errands and stalking the windproof. Because of the uneven distribution of the loot, he decided to surrender himself after his life was threatened and sought refuge with the police. Snake Zaiming not only confessed to the beginning and end of the double yellow kidnapping case, but also confessed to another murder incident linked to it.

The man who was killed, named Deng Tianfu, was thirty-three years old, nicknamed Ghost Zaifu, a repulsive local gangster and a fellow countryman of Deng Weiming. This case was accidental, one day Ghost Zaifu suddenly found that Deng Weiming, who had always been poor and jingling, suddenly became generous, not only dressed brightly, but also generous. Just when there were several robberies of Jinxing at that time, Ghost Zaifu mistakenly believed that Deng Weiming's sudden extravagance was related to these cases, so he proposed blackmail to him. Deng Weiming thought he knew about the kidnapping case, and could only give in. Who knew that Ghost Boy Fu was insatiable, thinking that he had caught a big fish, but he had repeatedly blackmailed uncontrollably. Deng Weiming couldn't bear it, so he colluded with the other three people and on the night of March 18, 1961, he asked ghost Boy Fu to be released and exterminated.

Deng Weiming, who played a small role in the double yellow kidnapping case, received the least amount of stolen money, coupled with ghost Zaifu's multiple extortions, and his previous excessive squandering, and soon became overstretched. So he asked the others to give him a little more money, but the others refused. Some of his companions even threatened to kill him. Tang Weiming, who had no money in his hands and was afraid of retaliation, after thinking about it all night, had to choose to surrender himself to the Hong Kong police and turned into a tainted witness.

The first of the ten strange cases in Hong Kong: the rich second generation evaporated after eating the supper, and the kidnappers were unevenly divided into stolen goods and infighting broke out

On December 10, 1961, under the guidance of Tang Wai Ming, the police dug up the bodies of Huang Yingsu and Deng Tianfu on a hillside in Repulse Bay, Hong Kong, followed by the arrest of three masterminds in the kidnapping case, namely 31-year-old Li Wei, 32-year-old Ni Bingjian, and 35-year-old Ma Guangcan.

Backgrounds and relationships of the members of the Three Wolves case:

The main offender, Li Wei, was born in 1930 and smuggled into Hong Kong in 1948, and the wealthy businessman Huang Xibin was still the brother of his uncle and a distant relative. With this relationship, li Wei began to work in the New Eagle Company under Huang Xibin's name from 1955. Because he dropped out of school early, Li Wei, who only had a primary school education, had a very low salary, with a monthly salary of only 25 Hong Kong dollars, barely making ends meet. Two years later, because he hated that his salary was too low, Li Wei resigned and went to an entertainment venue to do miscellaneous work, with a monthly salary of more than 100 Hong Kong dollars. At that time, Hong Kong's economy was generally sluggish, the entertainment venue went out of business after more than a month of maintenance, and Li Wei was completely unemployed. Li Wei, who lived in a poor life, felt that this step was because the Huang family was too picky, and he knew that the Huang family was rich, so he started the idea of the Huang family's grand duke.

After making a plan for the kidnapping, Li Wei began to look for candidates for the gang. The crime must first have a means of transportation, Li Wei can not drive, so he found a friend Ma Guangcan to help. Born in 1928, Ma Guangcan has been working with his uncle on the set since he was 19 years old. Later, he changed careers to become a makeup artist and became famous in the circle. Logically, Ma Guangcan's life is still good, and it is quite surprising that he was a kidnapper. Ma Guangcan could not drive, so he recommended the driver Ni Bingjian. Ni Bingjian, born in 1929, was a taxi driver in his early years, and later became a driving school instructor, and he also had a car. The three of them gathered together, and after listening to Li Wei's bold plan to make a fortune, the three of them hit it off at once, and the Three Wolves Case, the first of the ten strange cases in Hong Kong, was born.

With all the perpetrators arrested, on February 19, 1962, the Three Wolves case was officially heard. On the first day of trial, three defendants were charged with murdering Huang on June 19, 1959. In defending themselves, the three defendants unanimously stated that they had only participated in the kidnapping and extortion of Huang Xibin and were unaware of the death of his son Huang Yingsuo. They even claimed that they had been intimidated and beaten by the police, and pointed out that the confession was only a paper that the police had instructed them to move.

The entire trial lasted for more than half a month, the prosecution and defense fought each other in court, and the defense lawyer's interrogation was very exciting, so that the lively audience occasionally heard a series of exclamations. During this period, the shocking inside story that broke out from the mouths of witnesses and defendants made the case full of drama.

For example, in the debate to confirm the identity of the deceased, the tailor shop owner who testified in court recognized that the trousers were sewn for Huang Yingsu by virtue of the buttons on his clothes. But the defense lawyer immediately identified the loophole in the tailor's confession, pointing out that the other party could not prove that the trousers belonged to Huang Yingsu.

At the same time, when Huang Ying asked his wife to testify in court, because she was too emotional, she hid her face in pain without saying a few words, which showed how serious the blow to her husband's death was.

Huang Xibin, who had been silent before, also appeared in court as a witness, pointing out that Li Wei was a distant relative of his and that he was very familiar with him. When he was kidnapped, although Li Wei wore a wolf mask on his head, he immediately heard his voice. Li Wei once told himself that he was a wild wolf, and said that because Huang Yingqiu did not listen to discipline and tried to escape, he had been killed by him. When the defense lawyer asked him to come forward to identify Huang Yingqiu's skull, Huang Xibin even tearfully refused to come forward.

Verdict of the case:

At exactly one o'clock in the afternoon of March 14, 1962, the Case Investigation Division of the Hong Kong High Court brought black gold to formally pronounce the verdict: after a unanimous jury ruling, the three defendants Li Wei, Ma Guangcan and Ni Bingjian were convicted of murdering Huang Yingsu and sentenced to death by Huan Shou until he died of exhaustion, which was executed on November 28 of the same year. Deng Weiming was given a light sentence of 15 years in prison for his meritorious reporting.

After hearing the death sentence, the three main offenders behaved differently: Li Wei hung his head in despair and remained silent; Ma Guangcan kept saying loudly," "It doesn't matter"; Ni Bingjian's reaction was the greatest, and he constantly told reporters in court that he was wronged.

On November 28, 1962, Li Wei, Ma Guangcan, and Ni Bingjian were executed.

Because the case involved the collection of evidence from coercion, which may lead to untruthful evidence, some people listed it as a strange case. Due to the huge impact of the Three Wolves case, some people later adapted it into a movie, namely "Skynet" in 1974 and "The Strange Case of three wolves" in 1989. Among them, "The Case of Sanlang Qi" starred Leung Ka Fai, Zheng Zeshi and Xu Jinjiang, and had a great impact!
