Chinese athletes have been performing well in this international competition, and since they first teamed up to participate in the 19th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Hungary in 1987, a total of 140 players have been sent so far, of which 107 have won gold medals, 29 have won silver medals and 4 have won bronze medals.

The questions in this year's theoretical examination cover inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, structural chemistry, analytical chemistry, etc. The test questions not only focus on global cutting-edge academic issues such as "qualitative and quantitative detection needs for nucleic acids of the new coronavirus" and "key energy storage materials support services carbon neutrality strategic goals", but also integrate the excellent scientific research achievements of Chinese chemists such as "designing a chiral spiral ring catalyst to improve the efficiency of chiral molecular synthesis", showing the outstanding contribution of Chinese chemistry to the world's scientific and technological progress.

The 54th International Chemistry Olympiad, co-sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, and co-organized by Nankai University, the Chinese Chemical Society, the Youth Science and Technology Center of the China Association for Science and Technology, and the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology, focuses on the slogan of "change, creation, integration", promotes science and technology for good, promotes open integration, encourages innovation and creativity, and stimulates scientific interest.
