Sand cones ( scientific name : Gallinago ) belong to the order Ornithischia , Plover , Sand cones , and sand cones. It is a small wader that is very common in wetlands. It is found in large quantities in tidal flats, meadows and swamps. Alert temperament and flexible movements, it is more difficult to capture.
It is precisely because they are very adaptable that they are everywhere. From snow-capped Greenland to the scorching Caribbean, from the roof of the world to small islands in the South China Sea, they seem to have been found only in Antarctica.
Sand cones often move alone and form small groups of three or five. They prefer to appear in the quieter environments of the morning and dusk, and walk in shallow waters to forage for food.
They are very alert and usually hide in the grass when they are not moving, maintaining a crouching posture. While foraging, it briefly leaves the shade of the grass and quickly inserts its long mouth into the water. Whether there is a harvest or not, they will also go to another grass as soon as possible to hide.
If you accidentally get too close to the enemy, the sand cone will suddenly rush out of the hidden place, and make a "Gayi" shout, and then fly up and escape.
The sand cone flies fast and drifts in the air, usually throwing off its trackers after seven turns. But they don't fly too far each time, and generally fly more than ten meters and land in the grass. After landing on the ground, the sand cone will alertly observe the surroundings, and after there is no abnormality, it will burrow into the grass and continue to lurk. So it makes sense that this kind of prey is difficult to fight.
Sand cones feed mainly on small invertebrates such as insects, insect larvae, crustaceans and molluscs, and sometimes some crop seeds and grass seeds.
Only during the summer breeding season, sand cones will give up the habit of being cautious and show off their charms.
The male bird will fly high in the air, then suddenly descend, and then use the call to attract the female bird to watch his own flight show, and the most thrilling male bird will be favored by the beauty.
Their nests are a shallow pit planed in the ground with some fallen leaves and hay. There are usually three or four eggs per clutch, about the size and color of a quail egg. The incubation period is about two weeks, and the small sand cone can leave the nest after three or four weeks of feeding.
Although sand cones are numerous and common, they are also included in the list of "three haves" animals, so they cannot be hunted and bought and sold at will.
There are no sandpiper hunters now, so they don't have to be so nervous.
