Grouper on the island of Taiwan is largely surplus due to the cessation of imports from the mainland and needs to be sold in a timely manner. If the DPP authorities do not change their ideology of "resisting Central Committee and defending Taiwan," they will face an even greater dilemma.
According to reports, the mainland has suspended the import of Grouper from Taiwan since June 13, which has aroused strong concern from all walks of life on the island. In this regard, Taiwan regional leader Tsai Ing-wen shouted to the people on the island through social media, "Eat groupers, stand up for Taiwan!" Tsai Ing-wen declared that in addition to grouper, the mainland has also suspended the import of Taiwanese goods such as pineapples and Shakya. She said that she would work with the people of Taiwan to support Taiwan's farmers and fishermen through practical actions. However, Tsai Ing-wen's remarks did not get much support, on the contrary, many netizens on the island directly sarcastically said: "The next sentence helps you think well: eat white-belted fish, quite Taiwan!" ”
In fact, the fact that netizens on the island will mock Tsai Ing-wen so mercilessly is entirely because the DPP authorities under Tsai Ing-wen's leadership have no intentions or are perfunctory when handling cross-strait relations, and finally a series of serious consequences will occur. In 2021, the mainland side issued a warning to the DPP authorities about the pineapple, Shakya and other agricultural products exported from Taiwan, telling them that harmful organisms were found in the exported products and that the mainland would reopen the import channel after rectification, but the DPP authorities ignored it. Similarly, the export of grouper is also the case, the mainland has long been in the forefront, the Taiwan region must rectify the grouper, otherwise it will be completely suspended imports, but the DPP authorities are still perfunctory. As a result, after the mainland suspended imports, the DPP authorities used this as an excuse to attack the mainland in an attempt to politicize the economic and trade issues.
It is worth mentioning that the DPP authorities have not only failed to act on the issue of agricultural exports, but have also achieved a high degree of double standards. Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, pointed out that when problems arise with agricultural products sold to Japan, Singapore, and New Zealand, the DPP authorities have shown respect, apologized, and compensated. Why did the mainland detect the same problem in the agricultural products imported from Taiwan, and the Taiwan authorities changed their faces, but instead thought that it was wrong on the mainland side? In fact, Ma Xiaoguang's statement is also sending a very clear signal to the DPP authorities, that is, although the mainland side hopes for a better development of cross-strait relations, it does not mean that it will sit idly by while the DPP authorities have thrown dirty water on the mainland.
In addition to the mainland side, all circles of society on the island have also expressed dissatisfaction with the DPP authorities' practices, holding that this is entirely a deliberate provocation by the DPP authorities. Guo Zhengliang, a former dpp public opinion representative, pointed out in an interview a few days ago that the trade surplus of the Taiwan region with the mainland is as high as 70 billion US dollars, while the export volume of grouper is only 50 million US dollars, and if the mainland really intends to suppress the DPP authorities, it will not use this as an excuse and reason at all, so this is completely the "self-conjecture" of the DPP authorities. Moreover, the most crucial thing now is that there are mountains of groupers on the island of Taiwan, and there are still more than 3,300 tons to be sold urgently, so how to deal with them is also a problem that the DPP authorities need to properly handle. It is very irrational to expect the people in the Taiwan region to carry out "internal digestion"; they only ate pineapples last year, and this year they want to eat groupers again. If the responsibility that should be borne is not shouldered, and throwing the pot to the mainland and the people will only bring the situation to the point of being unmanageable.
