Akka (Acre) is a city located in the western Galilee region of northern Israel, about 152 km from Jerusalem. Acre is one of the oldest cities that continue to be inhabited by humans.

After the First Crusade established the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Crusaders attacked Acre, and after about 4 years of siege, Akka surrendered to the Crusaders in 1104. Acre became the main port of the Crusaders in Palestine. By the 1130s, the population of Acre was about 25,000 people. Saladin of Egypt captured Jerusalem after defeating the Crusaders at the Battle of Harding in 1187, and then occupied Acre, Sidon, and other places without fighting. During the Third Crusade, the Crusaders captured Acre in 1191. With the decline of the Crusader Movement, other Crusader towns on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean were lost, and Acre became an isolated city, which was finally captured by the Mamluk dynasty in 1291.
