The main frame of Anglon is made of bamboo, in which two to four bamboo tubes are suspended with rattan threads. The bamboo tubes are carefully cut and sharpened by master craftsmen in order to produce a specific tone when the bamboo frame is shaken. Each Anglon produces only one note or chord, so several people need to work together in order to be able to play the tune. Traditionally, Anglon uses a pentatonic scale, but in 1938 the musician Daeng Soetigna introduced a diatonic scale to Anglon, giving rise to the famous angklung padaeng.
