Born in Tianjin in 1937, Lü Changxin loved to play since he was a child and had excellent athletic ability, successfully entering the Central Institute of Physical Education.
After graduating in 1959, he was selected for the National Youth Men's Basketball Team a year later, and was transferred to the Chinese Men's Basketball Team in the same year, serving as an organizational defender on the court. Veteran fans know that a good defender is like a team's brain, can well sort out the team's attack, can mobilize players, play the team's maximum value, Lu Changxin is such a talented level defender.
Mr. Lu Changxin once said: "I feel that basketball is a game for the wise. If a player has a certain level of education, he will have a unique insight. The more knowledge, the wider the thinking. It can be said that in that era, Mr. Lu Changxin was a beacon that led players to a high level on a cultural level.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Chinese basketball and even the entire Chinese sports were monopolized and suppressed by the Western world for a long time, making China have no way to participate in such high-level competitions as the World Championships, the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, and the Asian Championships, so Lu Changxin's new player career only represented the Chinese team to participate in a new world games.
In this competition, the Chinese men's basketball team won the title of the first world champion. As the main force, Mr. Lu Changxin, who organized the defender, won the highest honor at the national level at that time.
In 1964, Mr. Lu Changxin retired from playing due to injury, embarked on a coaching position, and went to Cambodia to assist foreign countries from January 1965 to December 1966, using basketball as a link to exchange culture with other countries.
He has coached the men's basketball team and women's basketball team, from the initial national youth team coach to the later Chinese men's basketball assistant coach, with the assistance of Qian Chenghai's guidance, he helped the Chinese men's basketball team win 5 Asian Championship championships and 2 Asian Games championships, making the Chinese men's basketball team the most brilliant era in Asia, and many outstanding players have grown up under his guidance.
