Starting from 7 May 2022, Australia will host the World Synchronized Swimming Series (ASWS), a virtual event and the first time Australia has hosted an ASWS.

Synchronized swimming is a very creative project that, unlike any other sport, can be developed and adopted in a virtual form to allow athletes to gain valuable competition experience and increase exposure to athletes and the sport.

With a total of 127 athletes from 5 continents representing 22 countries, this virtual competition format provides a great opportunity for organizers and participants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first competition was the men's individual technical self-selection competition, in which Spain's Spain's Fernando Diaz del Rio Soto won the gold medal with 74.2865 points, accompanied by the Aerosmith song "Dream on", Spain's Fernando Diaz del Rio Soto showed his prowess perfectly. Kazakhstan's Eduard Kim, who competed in the ASWS men's individual technical self-selection competition for the first time, won the silver medal with 69.8678 points. Puerto Rican Javier Enrique Ruisanchez from Puerto Rico scored 57.9860 points, adding another bronze medal to his ASWS medal collection.

In the women's individual technical self-selection event, 17 athletes competed for medals. Vasiliki Alexandri, one of the three Austrian sisters, choreographed her own dance "Live in the Moment" and in the end Vasiliki Alexandri won the gold medal with a score of 84.1776 points. The silver medal was won by Audrey Lamothe, the youngest member of the Canadian team. In Michael Bublé's River of Tears, Audrey Lamothe scored 83.0599 points. The final podium finisher was Japan's Hirota Itsuki, who won the bronze medal for her dance with the theme of "Monster Mom" and scored 82.7571 points.

There are 17 pairs competing in the women's doubles technical self-selection competition. Anna-Maria and Eirini Alexandri from Austria won gold for the "Warriors" theme with a time of 87.8449. Shelly Bobritsky and Ariel Nassee, who represent Israel, once again took the podium after winning the bronze medal in Paris just last month, finishing second with 82.6422 points. Japan's Airi Kawaguchi and Uta Kobayashi won bronze for "Belly Dance" with 81.7360 points.

The growth and development of the sport of synchronized swimming can also be seen in the increase in participants in the hybrid double technology optional program. There are 7 pairs of mixed doubles players in this virtual event, including Belgium's Renaud Barral and Lisa Ingenito, who are competing for the first time. Yotaro and Tomooka Sato from Japan won gold medals for their animal and jungle-inspired dance performances. The two, who have scored 83.5156 points, will represent Japan at the FINA World Championships in Budapest this summer. Spanish athletes Emma Garcia and Pau Ribes continued to showcase their strengths in the project, winning the silver medal for the dance "Witch Hunter", inspired by "Hansel and Gretel", which scored 82.8584 points. In the end, Kazakhstan's Eduard Kim and Zhaklin Yakimova finished on the podium with a score of 78.8609 over American ivy Davis and Kenneth Gaudet, who scored 78.6820.

In the team technical selection event, four teams compete for three medals. Teams from the United States, Canada and Israel once again triumphed. Team USA's new dance inspired by Michael Jackson received 84.8199 points and won the gold medal. Team Canada's hip hop and rap came in second with 83.5067 points. Israel finished on the podium with a score of 81.5018 points.

The first day of the competition concludes with the exciting Highlight Routine Free, which showcases the combination of artistic detail and powerful acrobatic moves known for synchronized swimming. Team USA, unbeatable in the 2022 season's "Highlight Routine", won their second gold medal in Australia with a score of 87.8000 points, and their "caveman" routine was entertaining, creative and expressive. As with the 2022 ASWS First and Second Races, the Canadian team won a silver medal of 85.4000 points for the "Galaxy" themed dance. The Kazakhstani team won the bronze medal in the dance with 80.4000 points.
