RAMallah, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian Ministry of Health issued a statement on may 11 saying that a female reporter from Qatar's Al Jazeera television station was unfortunately shot and killed while reporting on the clash between the Israeli army and the Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.

The statement said the deceased, named Shirin Abu Al-Aklih, a Palestinian, was a reporter for the Arabic channel of Qatar's Al Jazeera television. She was shot in the head and died after being taken to hospital.

Witnesses said that the Israeli army entered the Jenin refugee camp on the morning of the 11th to carry out a search and arrest operation, clashed with local Palestinians and exchanged fire.

Gani, the director of the local Ibn Sinai Hospital in Jenin, told Xinhua that another reporter was shot in the back while reporting on the clash, but the injuries were minor.

The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement saying that the incident was being investigated.

Tensions in the Palestinian-Israeli region have intensified since late March. Israeli attacks have taken place in many places, using this as a pretext for large-scale manhunts in the West Bank and clashing with Palestinians.
