Maoyan has been curating "The World's Most Valuable Private Collection – Tyrant Collection" for many years. For Maoyan, in addition to learning numismatic knowledge and accumulating industry experience, this project also made me gradually familiar with the collectors of the Tyrant Collection, and let me know the kind collector's wife, Amy (Zhang Juhua).

The first time I met Amy, I thought she had no shelf at all, and we went from popular TV series to martial arts novels. I was amazed by Amy's understanding of mainland traditional culture, and even more admired her for always following Chinese pop culture despite being in the upper class of the United States.

Amy once opened her own Chinese column "Bright Sky" in the california tribune, an important overseas Chinese media, to share her views on current affairs such as world politics and economy and some travel anecdotes. The column was widely acclaimed and had a profound impact on that generation of Chinese in the United States. During her tenure at the newspaper, she not only witnessed many milestone events in Sino-US people-to-people exchanges, but also entertained many important political figures on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

It is a great honor to be able to publish Amy's new work on its own platform today. In this article, she introduces the Tyrant Collection's collectors to their outstanding career achievements, the family background of their upbringing, and the new direction of life that they are currently working on.

Bai Xianyong's "Youth Edition Peony Pavilion" celebration banquet was hosted by me who donated money to the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and President Yang invited me to be my co-host with him. Training independent children

Sir once mentioned that when his father/my father-in-law was president of Oakland University, almost all politicians of Michigan, large and small, knew each other. One year, four of them folded up the Christmas cards they had received that year, and the result was as high as the roof!

A person who is very social and social, in fact, does not talk much, so when the father-in-law wants to speak to everyone, we naturally listen with bated breath.

The father-in-law made the main point: he had hoped to train independent children all his life; his interaction with his children was based on this foundation. Only then did I understand that the relationship between the father-in-law and his children has always been as light as water, and this is the role!

I have witnessed my husband's 40 years from the beginning of his business to the present, from the beginning of the fundraising of very little funds (70,000 us dollars in cash plus the provision of venues and computers equivalent to 70,000 yuan), and put on the deposits since he did things, to the bottlenecks in the process, Mr. never opened his mouth to his father, or asked for advice.

On a few occasions, I asked my husband why he didn't ask his father for advice. Sir said: Since he was a child, he encountered problems, asked his father for advice, and never got answers, because of this, he cultivated him to encounter problems, never expect anyone, and also created his amazing ability to solve problems!

In 1980, after I met my husband, I saw that he was serious and not calculating, and he was fully committed to his work, rather than a monk banging the bell to watch his salary and calculate time to do things, and some of his friends around him, especially those who graduated from Caltech, were the same, and I suddenly realized that this is the main reason for the strength of the United States! What a dedicated and responsible group of people! They don't spend time talking, and they don't care about playing with political means to steal the fruits of other people's hard work for themselves. This is a bunch of doers!

Mr. four brothers and sisters in the family, although the two younger brothers have no proud achievements, but also seriously live the life of ordinary people, never want to, nor do they want to dip into the benefits of his successful brother, or sister, they are self-sufficient, may not have the extra ability to benefit or take care of others, but at least they and the people around them to greet the food, clothing, shelter and transportation, never create or become a burden on society, never envy others than his rich material conditions, always use their brains to think about how to share other people's property, Or think about how to get rich for nothing – like hyping up stocks.

At that time, Mr. Li insisted: Before giving birth to a child, we should first study how to raise a child. He was busy because the company was still growing, and when he had time to study, I was afraid that I was past the age of having children, so I had to do my own research. The gentleman's request was that he must study the growth process year after year, and also write a report (for him). Having no scientific training, I obediently asked my husband for advice. In addition to reading the books, he said, it is more important to read first-hand information – to ask the mothers of those who have grown up and succeeded to see how they have laid the foundation for their children. The first mother I thought of was, of course, the mother of my Mr. Success.

Two sons were already in junior high school, and the father was more pro than me. It was also an intimate relationship that my husband and his father did not have –and I preferred it.

Observation and provision

At the beginning of my marriage, a friend often had headaches for his difficult son, and I once asked my mother-in-law what a good idea, and the first thing my mother-in-law asked was: How old is the child? She said that under the age of six she could train well, and the above was not sure.

The mother-in-law said that the principle of her raising children is: observe and provide. Pay attention to the talent or hobby of the young child, and provide him with the opportunity to learn more deeply. When he was eight years old, he received a philatelic album; when he was 12 years old, his birthday gift was an astronomical telescope. Due to his talent in mathematics, he participated in a math summer camp sponsored by Accralan University during the summer vacation at the age of 14.

In October 1983, my husband helped me move all the way from the San Jose area of Northern California to Pasadena in Southern California, and after passing through Central California one night, my husband suddenly asked me to park on the side of the road, which turned out to be a dark and open place without lights. The gentleman pointed to the stars in the sky and began to tell me about the Milky Way galaxy. This is the first time I have heard about astronomy as a scholar, and I found it very interesting! Excited too! A few years later, my mother-in-law sent a newspaper clipping from Alaska: Accorland University reopened the Astronomical Observatory, tracing the history of the original creation, which was originally established by Mr. Chen when he was 14 years old and a master's student at a university research institute. Of course I immediately asked sir, what work did he do? From raising funds to obtaining funds, to selecting instruments and installing... This was in 1969.

Sir began to stand on his own

My husband, because of his mother's strict schedule control at home, graduated from high school early before the age of 17 (still 16 years old), quickly left his parents' home, and went to school at Caltech, which ranked first in the world in science and engineering, and began his independent life.

Superman's Perseverance - Mr. Made Never Crash Computer Operating System (OS)

As early as the Caltech era, he wanted to develop a computer operating system (OS) that would not crash, until 1990, when he had the opportunity to start designing programs with time, and after the success of 1997, Boeing became the first customer to use the B-1B. Boeing's head of engineers at the time admitted that they had been trying to develop this never-turn-off computer operating system (OS) internally for 20 years without success!

The large aircraft made after 1997 are almost all named after GHS computer operating system with the INTEGRITY (GHS computer operating system name) of My Husband's company (Green Hills Software), including: F-35, F-22, F-16, B-1B, B2Bomber, Boeing787, AirBusA380... Pioneer of the world's first and most successful handheld video game software, embedded systems

A must-have gift for Christmas 1977 — Mattel Electronic Football, the world's first and most successful handheld video game software and pioneer of the Embedded System ( Chinese translates to " embedded systems — was my husband's first work after graduating from Caltech at the age of 20. He wrote "Mattel Electronic Baseball", "Mattel Electronic Basketball" software that year.

I learned five years ago that this Mattel Electronic Football turned out to be a must-have gift for American children at Christmas 1977, and in 1984 Mr. Li happily showed me this old toy in his hand, and I, who knew almost nothing about video games, thought absently: This outdated video game, now many video games are much more fun... Unexpectedly, in recent years, I have encountered some American men around 50 years old, as long as they mention this toy, they almost have to jump up, saying that they are their childhood favorites, and they still have it, including the current head of the computer department at the California Institute of Technology. To this day, Amazon is still selling on the Internet!

I asked Mr. Carefully, and I realized that it was so popular (I adore Mr. More!). )! What's more: the first most successful manual video game can also be regarded as the pioneer of embedded system software. I asked sir is that the world's first hand-controlled video game? Sir said: It's the second one. However, it was the first and most successful, because the first (the program written by one of his seniors) did not succeed.

Worked with college friends to design the most advanced microprocessor chips

In 1978, he was invited by his college classmate Les Kohn, who had been known as the "Microprocessor Guru" in 1990, and the two of them jointly designed the NS32000 (NS32000 microprocessor chips - 3 pieces), the most advanced microprocessor chip at the time, the first to have a virtual memory, floating point, and 32-bit A computer microprocessor chip was used in the camera of the Mars Global Surveyor 1996.

Digression: Quantum Mechanics

Four years ago (2018), one day mr. was at breakfast, pointing to a notepad on the table (which could be torn off one by one), asking if it was mine, and I glanced at the kitchen from a distance and said, "It's mine." The gentleman asked again, "Is it yours?" ”。

Wondering why he didn't believe it, I looked closer, and he was referring to the top page, and I said, this page is the note of my younger son at Caltech, and I looked at this notepad with a lot of blank pages that were useless, so I tore off the first few pages, leaving only the first page of these blank pages. What's so strange about me reading this page by the way? When I looked at it, I found that I didn't understand it at all, there were numbers but it wasn't like advanced mathematics, so I asked mr. Sir, what is this higher mathematics that I don't understand? The gentleman replied, "This is Quantum mechanics, which is not strictly mathematical, but should be more physical." I asked, "Such a complex and esoteric thing, usually not used, what to learn it for?" "I used this quantum mechanics when I designed the NS32000 microprocessor chips.

The world's first system software

My husband, Dan O'Dowd, has been focusing on the software tools that must be used in the development of software, Green Hills Software is the first company that only computer systems engineers have the ability and qualifications to enter the work, is a company that specializes in developing and then providing computer programmers with the software tools needed to develop programs, specializing in such products, there are only a few companies in the world (within five fingers), and no company can make a difference to Green Hills Software is superior to this type of product.

What company has the founder of my husband? Just by virtue of the fact that he designed the most advanced computer microprocessor chip in 1978, the computer software industry could not find a second person! What's more, he is also one of the pioneers of embedded system software that is full of advanced countries in the world today.

Green Hills Software's debugger is now mature enough to quickly identify any computer bugs.

More than four years ago, a customer came to the door for help: four software engineers in their company spent three months unable to find out the computer program error (bug), and as a result, my husband's customer support manager used the company's debugger - MULTI to help them find the computer error that drove them crazy. They were overjoyed and amazed!

In fact, five years ago, my husband excitedly told me that their Time Machine (initially made in 2004) in MULTI can quickly trace the program that caused software errors (trace back to the code which causes the bug), and is mature enough to find any computer bugs! I remember, I almost shed tears – moved! Too clever and awesome!

One thing that only I know (and may be my guess): After the launch of "Live Free or Die Hard" in 2007, the disaster caused by the intrusion of all the software in the film by the villains coincided with seven speeches written by my husband more than two years ago (2004), (except for the final F-35 hack). These seven speeches were published at the company-sponsored exchange meeting, inviting companies and media in the industry, and when I watched the movie, I thought, 80% of my good deeds! It's just because more than two years ago, I copied a copy of these seven speeches about computer software security (including cybersecurity) and sent it to Dennis Miller, a famous talk show artist I knew at the time.

Meet Sir

After I earned my master's degree in computer science in 1980, my first job was the Mesa Project at National Semiconductor. It was a team of more than three hundred people who were going to do personal computers with the microprocessor chips the company was making, NS32000 microprocessors, and Les Kohn, who designed the NS32000 microprocessor chips, and my current husband, Dan O'Dowd, were already legends in our group at the time.

What is Les Kohn concentrating on? Les's hobbies are photography and music, and the chips he designs are definitely the best choice for use in images and music.

I was in charge of developing the compiler of the software language and the computer operating system (OS), and I was hired by The Testing, and my immediate supervisor, a male student who graduated from the Electrical Engineering Department of NTU and had a master's degree in computer science at Berkeley, often reminded me that Dan O'Dowd was a very intelligent person, and I had better talk to him less so as not to leak the bottom (I was too bad). In fact, I was very bad at English, and it was quite hard to talk to foreigners. I often told my friends later that my degree in computer software, compared to my husband's, I was climbing on the ground, and he was flying in the sky - the difference was very different!

Don't look at me as I have a master's degree in computers, and he's a bachelor's degree. It was also then that I realized that the level of degree is not the measurer of ability, and which university graduate is the beginning.

I do the work of testing assembler, and whenever I have a problem with the test, I report it to bernnie Bove, the engineer in charge of the assembler, who immediately gets up and says, "Let's go find the DDO ." Then I had the opportunity to go to the studio of the legendary DDO in the group at the time— "Silly" of course, and listen to the two men discuss the "Book of Heaven".

When I joined the Mesa group in 1980, windows were already available internally (a program designed and written by another Caltech classmate, Dave Neff), four years before Apple's windows! Unfortunately, there are many factional struggles in large companies, and the Mesa Project has left because the protector, the vice president of the company, and the president of the factory manufacturing background, Mr. and Les Kohn have lost the discerning upper protector, and a group of manufacturing executives have competed for this "fat meat" ("Mesa Project") and decided to leave (1982).

In 1984, I organized (in my name) a reunion with some of my colleagues from the 'Mesa Group' (software department, except Les Kohn) at a Bay Area Chinese restaurant. The girl on the left-hand side of the gentleman came up to me and said, "Why would you associate with him?" I've been with his colleagues for three years and never dared to talk to him! To her left was Les Kohn, who later became a chip leader. Les's left pair was his and his husband's Caltech classmate, and the Window, which we used internally at the time (1982), was made by Mr. Dave Neff.

Les Kohn decided to focus on the development of computer microprocessor chips, so he joined Intel, the company that made the strongest chips that year. The development of the "National Semiconductor" personal computer, without two soul figures, of course, can not continue, so there is no disease!

Unfortunately, when the personal computer was close to completion, we used the E-PASCAL designed by my husband internally, which is the simplest, clearest and most easy computer programming language I have ever used!

The hero behind the Macintosh

In 1984, He met with Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Computer, and signed a contract to help Macintosh, which uses Motorola's 68,000 microprocessor chip, make a C compiler. A year later, Green Hills Software successfully completed the C compiler that could be used on Motorola's 68,000 microprocessor chip (Motorola 68,000) and saved the Macintosh.

By then, Steve Jobs had been kicked out of Apple for the failure of the Macintosh market. John Scully, who had cast Jobs on apple's presidency, a person who had no computer technology expertise and had been trying to cancel the Macintosh because of the unsuccessful Macintosh market, had picked up a bargain and became a contributor to the Macintosh's popular market.

If Jobs hadn't realized in time that he should have chosen the programming language C used by many applications, rather than the less-used language PASCAL so that Macintosh wouldn't sell; if it hadn't been for a programming engineer under Jobs (who had worked on the Computer Language Compilers Group chaired by Mr. National Semiconductor) to propose to Jobs that he knew someone who had already made a C compiler that could be used on Motorola's 68,000 microprocessor chips, Jobs immediately asked Green Hills Software (only Mr. and another programming partner at the time) helped Macintosh make a C compiler (no one at the time made a C compiler that could be used on Motorola's 68,000 microprocessor chips, and if Apple wanted to develop on its own, it would take at least two years or more, not necessarily to do it).

As a result, in less than a year, Green Hills Software successfully made a C compiler that could be put into the Macintosh, and The sales of the Macintosh began to soar, and the new president of Apple Computer, who almost wanted to cancel the Macintosh, became a genius market operator who brought the Macintosh back to life!

This former president of Pepsi, who is not a technical background, probably still does not know the main reason why Macintosh came back to life. If Green Hills Software did not install the C compiler on the Macintosh in time, and the Macintosh was canceled by John Scully, there would be no later Jobs returning to "Apple Computer" and today's dominant "Apple Computer", Jobs's timely decision to correct the error, coupled with the advanced technology that Green Hills Software already has, is the great hero of Macintosh's bloody resurrection!

Digression

Jobs learned from this struggle (Scully, who was recruited into "Apple" by himself as president, joined hands with the board of directors to kick him out of the door of "Apple"), and was later asked to return by the directors of "Apple" when "Apple" was weak, and one of his conditions was absolute power. His first personnel decision after returning to Apple was to fire all board members!

The person who called Jobs to return to Apple was the head of the legal department of "Apple", and later accepted the invitation of Mr. Steve, and has been on the board of GHS.

Sir's vision – to manufacture products that will be needed in ten years' time

In the second year of Green Hills Software' existence, he once said that many people made fun of him, and personal computers would soon replace mainframe computers, not using a structure-rigorous language compiler like a large computer.

Sir said that they are wrong, the future of the personal computer will be as powerful as the mainframe computer , you need the structure of the mainframe language compiler, wait until they realize and then develop, at least two years behind GHS!
