Han Peisheng: Deep ploughing of the mountains and rivers of eastern Zhejiang, portraying beautiful nostalgia

"Deep Ploughing - Han Peisheng Oil Painting Academic Research Exhibition" opened on May 8, 2022 at Ningbo Nade Art Museum, exhibiting nearly 140 new works by artists in recent years and classic masterpieces of different periods, presenting Han Peisheng's artistic context, style and pursuit.

Born in Yuyao in 1946, Han Peisheng moved to Shanghai with his family as a young man and enrolled in the Affiliated High School of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1964. He is a member of the China Artists Association, the former vice chairman of the Zhejiang Oil Painters Association, a member of the Art Committee of the Zhejiang Oil Painters Association, and the vice president of the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Human and Natural Oil Painting.

Because of the epidemic, the exhibition did not hold an opening ceremony, but Han Peisheng's three friends, Pan Gongkai, former president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Xu Mangyao, a famous chinese contemporary oil painter, and Zheng Zuoliang, a famous printmaker and former director of the Collection Department of the National Art Museum of China, all wrote congratulatory letters for his solo exhibition.

At the opening of the exhibition, Han Peisheng came to Ningbo Nade Art Museum to hold a small appreciation salon with oil painting circles and oil painting enthusiasts in Ningbo, and led the audience to appreciate the aesthetic world of his deep cultivation of spiritual reflection for more than 60 years in the form of cloud live broadcast.

The works of Han Peisheng in this exhibition are mainly landscape paintings, but the opening work of the exhibition is a figure painting "Old Partner". The picture shows three old fishermen, who were once old partners, sitting on the shore after retirement to reminisce about the life of fishermen. The painting was created in 1998 and is modeled after a local fisherman in Ningbo.

After graduating from the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts High School, Han Peisheng went to Fenghua, where he stayed for 30 years, and used this hot land as the source of artistic creation, painting many classics. His fishermen portrait series adopts a moderate exaggeration in shape, while paying attention to the portrayal of quality, weight and space. The brown-red face covered with deep concave wrinkles and a pair of hands with small, dark, large and thick joints seem to record the life experience of fishermen fighting and fighting with the mighty wind and waves.

Han Peisheng said frankly, "The mountain villages, fishing villages, mountain people and fishermen in eastern Zhejiang have become the source of my creation, and this "Old Partner" condenses my memories of the countryside and my experience of life. In the painting, I draw the hands of the figures very large. In those days, the fishermen's hands were very powerful, they were pulling nets, and their feet were also very powerful, so in my paintings, their toes were separated, and they kept standing on the boat. ”

All the fishermen's paintings are conceived and written from Han Peisheng's real life experience in the fishing village. Han Peisheng drank soy sauce soup, slept in a bamboo sleeping bed, and ran all over the fishery brigades such as Xiachen, Tongzhao, and Qifeng along the coast of Xiangshan Port in Fenghua, and knew the customs and customs of the fishing village very well.

In 2000, "Old Partner" participated in the Ninth National Art Exhibition and was selected for the 2012 "Special Exhibition of Fine Art Works in the Fertile Land of Hundred Flowers", becoming one of the representative works of 100 Zhejiang artists in the "Special Exhibition of Zhejiang Provincial Fine Arts Works commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Chairman Mao's Speech at the Yan'an Literary and Art Forum" organized by the Propaganda Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial Federation of Literature and Art. Han Peisheng is a leading figure in the oil painting industry in eastern Zhejiang, and only Han Peisheng and Chen Jiwu were selected for the special exhibition in Ningbo that year.
