Located on the north bank of the Dordogne River, the CÔTES DE CASTILLON wine region is the easternmost wine region of the Libournals region. The soils of the mix of gravel, fine sand and clay grow Merlot and Cabernet-Franc grapes, producing round, fruity wines that often perform better than the nearby, more expensive Saint-Aymeuts. The powerful Cooperatlve de Cashllon has long controlled two-thirds of the region's wine sugar production, but investments in recent years have led to the emergence of excellent new wineries in the region.

The CTES DE FRANCS wine district is a recently operational wine district, also known as bordeaux Cotes de Francs, located at the eastern end of the Libourne region, next to the Castel de yoncho wine region and not far from the Saint-Emilion wine district. The franchisco region's soil quality is similar to that of Castillon Hills, with a slightly higher limestone content and higher terrain, coupled with less rainfall and the most abundant sunshine in the province, which helps to produce fine wine. The region's excellent natural conditions attract top winemakers, including the Thienpont family of Château Puygueraud.
