Near the LBDC Canal in Lahore, Punjab Province, Pakistan, a large modern power station is operating stably at full capacity, continuously delivering light and warmth to thousands of households in Pakistan. There is such a group of people in the Sahivar Power Station, a key project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, who, together with the builders from China, have contributed to the smooth operation of the power station, and have also left a vivid and wonderful and touching story. They are local strivers from Pakistan.

Pictured here is Avis Haider at work.

Stick to your post, only for your hometown to be more beautiful

Avis Haider is the deputy head of the fuel specialist railway dispatching team in the sahiwar power station maintenance department. In 2015, with the start of construction of the power station, Haider successfully joined the power station after graduating from university. Haider told reporters that as a member of the power station, he participated in the whole process from construction to operation, formed a deep friendship with his colleagues in China, and also withstood the test of the new crown pneumonia epidemic hand in hand, and everyone became a community of destiny together.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the power station has implemented strict epidemic prevention measures, and Haider has been working continuously with other Colleagues in China and Pakistan for 25 consecutive months at the power plant. Unlike the Chinese stickers on the project, Haider's hometown is only a 10-minute drive from the Sahiwal power station, and he can go home at any time to reunite with his family and spend many important festivals in Pakistan, but he has overcome many difficulties and chosen to stick to his job. When other Pakistani employees had to leave temporarily due to personal factors such as marriage, Haider decided to give up his vacation to a colleague. When asked why he did this, Haider said excitedly: "I have personally experienced and witnessed the whole process of the Sahivar power station from scratch, and its completion has brought earth-shaking changes to the local area. The most intuitive benefit is that the nearby area used to have a power outage for 7 to 8 hours a day, and the smiles on the faces of the people blossomed, which is really a good day that I dare not imagine! And Haider's hometown is one of the villages covered by electricity, and his relatives are among the happy smiling faces that are illuminated.

Xu Yanan, director of the corporate culture department of Huaneng Shandong Ruyi (Pakistan) Energy Co., Ltd., who is responsible for the operation of the Sahiwar power station, told reporters that during the epidemic period, a group of Pakistani employees represented by Haider perfectly demonstrated the builders' firm commitment and dedication to the work, and together with the Chinese employees, they showed a great sense of responsibility for the work responsibilities. Xu Yanan said that since the outbreak of the epidemic, many Pakistani employees have stuck to their posts with Chinese project personnel, more than 130 Chinese employees have been in place for two consecutive years, and a large number of Pakistani employees have "given up their small homes for everyone" to stick to the project site for a long time. Some Pakistani employees voluntarily gave up going home when their son was born and continued to insist on staying for 10 months before returning home to visit their wives and children. It is these respectable adherents who ensure that the power station does not stop work and does not stop production under the epidemic, ensures the continuous and stable supply of electricity, and maintains the healthy and sustainable development of the power station.

From a Chinese "genius" to an expert

With a dark face, a medium build, bright eyes, and a young man who was happy to see people, this was the first impression of another Pakistani employee from the Sahiwal power station, Mohammed Yahir. However, Chinese colleagues usually prefer to call his Chinese name: Yang Hanjie.

Yang Hanjie, 30 years old, graduated from multan University in Pakistan with a degree in science and art, and officially joined the Sahiwal Power Station in 2017. Xu Yan'an recalled that knowing Yang Hanjie was a chance. "Once he came to the office to ask me to sign, and when we met, he said a standard 'good morning' and communicated with a skilled Chinese, which made a deep impression on me." Later, after further conversation, it was learned that Yang Hanjie had only spent more than two years, and he had gone from speaking only a few crappy words at the beginning to the extent that he had now fully realized Chinese barrier-free communication. In this regard, Yang Hanjie said that the learning process is very arduous, and there are several times I want to give up, but I still grit my teeth and persevere. "I can say that Chinese greatly facilitate my work and life, and the boss likes me very much." He said proudly. At present, Yang Hanjie is one of the two best Pakistani employees in the Chinese of the Sahibal Power Station.

In Xu Yan'an's eyes, the courage to challenge his comfort zone is the most precious aspect of Yang Hanjie. In his work, he is diligent and studious, hard-working, conscientious and responsible, and his work attitude and ability have been unanimously affirmed by department leaders and other colleagues. This also made Yang Hanjie step by step from an apprentice to the current assistant in charge of the material department. Now, Yang Hanjie is already a mature and professional expert, he leads 9 Pakistani employees, responsible for the storage, management and maintenance of all the company's purchased materials and spare parts, and also provides an important guarantee for the safe and stable operation and maintenance of the two units.

The new year has new aspirations. Yang Hanjie's wish is: "I wish the company better and better, and I will continue to work hard and strive for a salary increase and promotion." When the epidemic passes, I have the opportunity to take my family to Travel to China, and I love China! ”

An opportunity that changed the destiny of individuals and families

Born in a small, remote village in Pakistan, Mohammed Munib, who currently works in the operation department of the Sahibal power station, was determined from an early age that he had to go to university, get out of the small mountain village, and change the fate of his entire family. As a result, Munib studied hard and finally got into college in 2011, but the tuition fees were not affordable for a poor mountain village family. Only one step away from the realization of dreams, poverty has once again become a stumbling block on the road of life. In recalling this experience, Munib still remembers it. Later, he won the opportunity to take a year off from school, on the one hand, he worked to earn money, on the other hand, his father also helped to pay for tuition. The following year, Munib finally entered the university and graduated with honors.

The twist of fate took place in 2015. This year, Munib went through layers of selection and successfully entered the Sahiwal power station. In November of the same year, he went to China for training and study with 57 Pakistani employees. During the period in China, Huaneng Shandong Company conducted systematic and professional training for Pakistani employees. Munib was assigned to the Huaneng Texas Power Plant for on-site training along with 13 Pakistani employees. During the training, Munib's hard work, serious learning attitude and politeness and humility in life allowed him to gain high praise and deep friendship from Chinese masters.

After 9 months of training, Munib returned to the Sahiwal project site, and after more than 5 years of study and practice, he grew from a recent college graduate to the main attendant of the 660MW coal-fired power station. Munib said that at present, he has received a huge increase in his position and income, and his family conditions have become increasingly superior, and the fate of individuals and families has changed. Since then, poverty can no longer stop the dreams of the next generation of Munib's children from flying.

Xu Yanan told reporters that the construction and operation of the power station has created a large number of jobs for local people. During the construction of the project, about 3,000 Pakistani employees participated in the construction, and thousands of needy families were improved. Today, more than 500 Pakistani employees are working in various positions in the power plant. At the same time, the power station also actively fulfills its social responsibilities and invests 26 million yuan to build a vocational and technical college, which can provide professional training for Chinese, simulators, welders, electricians, laboratory tests, etc., and train more than 1,000 trainees every year. More and more Pakistani employees, like Munib, are constantly improving their abilities and moving to higher positions, growing with the Sahibal Project and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to achieve higher life goals.
