Parris's Judgment

The Judgement of Paris, by Painter: Lucas Cranach Jr., Date of Creation: 1540-1546, Type of Painting: Oil on Wood Panels, Style of Painting: Northern Renaissance.

The painting depicts Prince Paris judging who is the most beautiful goddess. Prince Paris sat under the tree, looking at the three goddesses in front of him, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, and thinking about which one to choose as the most beautiful goddess. The three goddesses stood in front of Prince Paris, each showing off their charms.

The Queen of Heaven, Hera, athena, the goddess of wisdom, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love, caused a dispute over the acquisition of a golden apple inscribed with the words "Dedicated to the Most Beautiful Goddess.". So they decided to hold a beauty contest for Zeus to judge who among the three of them was the most beautiful goddess in the celestial realm. Zeus, not wanting to offend any of them, threw the hot potato to the Trojans, and at the suggestion of the divine envoy Hermes, decided to have a handsome Trojan prince, Paris, the mortal, the referee of the beauty pageant of the three goddesses. In order to obtain the golden apple, all three goddesses privately bribed Paris, the queen of heaven Hera promised to make him the king of Asia; athena, the goddess of wisdom, promised to make him the wisest person and gave him the highest military merit; and Aphrodite, the goddess of love, promised him the love of the most beautiful woman, Helen. The three goddesses, guided by the divine messenger Hermes, came together to Mount Ida and met Prince Paris. Paris thought about it, thinking that power and rule could be realized when he inherited his father's throne later, and military merit could be obtained by his own ability, but love was unattainable. Eventually, Paris handed over the golden apple, which symbolized the most beautiful goddess, to Aphrodite, the goddess of love.
