Famed boxing promoter Frank Warren considers Tyson Fury to be Britain's greatest heavyweight boxer of all time, surpassing even the legendary undisputed boxer Lewis, whose technique is even on the same level as Muhammad Ali's.
Fury is the defending champion for WBC, but during his unbeaten career, he also won heavyweight titles in the other three major organizations. He has won world championships in all four major organizations in his career and has never been beaten.
In the past Lewis was the last to become the undisputed heavyweight champion and is widely regarded as one of the best people ever. He defeated many others, including Holyfield, Tyson and Vitaly Krichko, who was considered by many to be Britain's greatest boxer.
Born in the UK, Lewis moved to Canada at the age of 12 and later won an Olympic gold medal for Canada in 1988, although he represented The UK during his career. Despite his impressive resume, Warren believes Fury's prowess makes him a true legend and giant in heavyweight competitions of any era.
"I think he is. It was clear that Lennox Lewis was an Englishman from Canada, and we all knew the story. But let's make him one of ours," Warren told Sports Talk. "I think Tyson Fury is a very unusual fighter. His size, his boxing mind, his boxing skills; in any generation, he was difficult for any boxer to deal with. ”
"If you go back to Ali, Foreman's glory days, most of these guys have to give Fury a high height, and his speed is comparable to Ali's," Warren insisted. "Will he beat Fraser or Joe Lewis?" It's going to be a bloody and wonderful game. ”
For now, Fury still insists he will withdraw from boxing, but Warren still calls on Fury to face the winners of Anthony Joshua and Oleksand Usik later this year. While few believe the 33-year-old boxer will actually leave boxing, Fury said he is more likely to leave boxing to appear in WWE or earn "Mayweather's money" in a crossover match with UFC heavyweight champion Francis Nagano.
