The 16-page book, 270 pages, full-color printing, with 100 pictures, covers Mr. Cui's family history, life experience, artistic characteristics, artistic thought, art market, ideological value, etc., and is the second book by scholar Wang Xu to study Mr. Cui after "On the Changes of Ancient and Modern Times and the Study of Cui Ruzhuo's Painting" (Sichuan Fine Arts Publishing House, 2014, wang Xu).
The book is prefaced by Mr. Cui himself, and is highly authoritative, and is undoubtedly a good book with high readability.
Mr. Cui said in the "Preface": "Unexpectedly, I read the manuscript, especially from the perspective of cultural thought and social development history, bypassing art history, answering specific questions in art history, its views are novel, the arguments are sufficient, it can be said that this book provides new ideas and new methods for the study of painting history in terms of writing. I know Wang Xu, who, under my guidance, has had fourteen years of traditional cultural research experience in retreat, and has a relatively good grasp of the history of philosophical thought, literary history, painting history, and social change, which is reflected in his words. "Writing a commentary on a painter seems simple, but it is not easy, and there are very few mature models to learn from." After all, the status of painters in cultural history is relatively marginal. The book "A Chinese Painter You Need to Know: A Biography of Cui Ruzhuo" is the result of the academic research of scholar Wang Xu, who overcame many difficulties and took four years to write. The reason for writing this book, he said, first, he knew Mr. Cui, and writing Mr. Cui was just an attempt for him to write reviews for other people, hoping to accumulate some experience. Second, the purpose is to clear the source and lead the healthy development of contemporary painting.
