The first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Brain Science Summit Forum was held in Sui

On April 29-30, the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Brain Science Summit Forum and guangzhou "Brain Science and Brain-like Research" Academic Salon were held in Sui. Experts and scholars from home and abroad participated in the conference through online and offline forms.

The conference was hosted by the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, co-organized by the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, the Brain Hospital Affiliated to Guangzhou Medical University, and the Alliance of Psychiatric and Neurological Diseases of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Universities.

"Brain Science and Brain-like Research (Brain Project)" has been listed as a key research project in the frontier field of science and technology in mainland China. Gao Song, chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance and president of Sun Yat-sen University, spoke highly of the establishment of the professional alliance and the cooperation and development achievements of the three brain plans and brain health promotion, and hoped that in the future, he could better play the leading role of sun yat-sen university's double-first-class universities, give play to the role of university alliances and professional alliances as bridges in the Greater Bay Area, and boost the construction of a first-class bay area.

At the Brain Science Academician Forum, Academician Yang Xiongli of Fudan University, Academician Su Guohui of Jinan University, Academician Lu Lin of peking University Sixth Hospital, Academician Gao Tianming of Southern Medical University, as well as Professor Wang Yongjun, Professor Zeng Jinsheng and other well-known brain science experts at home and abroad made special reports and exchanges on the recent team research progress.

The conference focused on the recent research achievements of the Greater Bay Area, and set up a total of 16 discussion topics, covering: spinal cord injury and repair, autism spectrum disorder, acute stroke, neuroimmunity, cerebral small blood vessel disease, skull base endoscopy and minimally invasive neurosurgery, neuro intervention, depression and cognitive impairment, central nervous system infection, epilepsy and neurodegenerative disease, neural rehabilitation and brain regulation, swallowing disorder rehabilitation, neuroimaging and function, neurological and rehabilitation nursing, big data artificial intelligence, etc., and held guangzhou at the same time" Brain Science and Brain-like Research" Special Research Progress Report.

Actively explore stem cells for the treatment of encephalopathy

Wu Jinghong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, introduced that as the medical institution with the most complete encephalopathy discipline in South China, the encephalopathy department of the Zhongshan Third Hospital has formed the characteristics of pediatric autism, depression, cerebrovascular disease, neuroimmune disease, nerve tumor, nerve damage repair and other well-known diagnosis and treatment research characteristics in China and even Southeast Asia.

Rong Limin (pictured above), head of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Psychiatric and Neurological Disease Alliance and president of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, said that since the establishment of the "Psychiatric and Neurological Disease Research Center" (i.e. the "Encephalopathy Center") in 2018, the hospital has taken the lead in jointly building the "National Neurological Regional Medical Center" (Central South) with the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and jointly declared the construction of the "National Psychiatric Regional Medical Center" (Central South) with the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, and has worked with a number of universities, medical institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Research institutes work together to advance brain science research.

Lu Zhengqi, director of the Department of Neurology of Zhongshan Third Hospital and executive deputy director of the Research Center for Psychiatric and Neurological Diseases, introduced that at present, the encephalopathy big data cloud platform centered on the Zhongshan Third Hospital is advancing at a high speed, and the telemedicine platform with brain diseases as the core has been officially launched in 2020. As one of the first batch of stem cell clinical research institutions in China, the hospital has been approved as the first "Key Laboratory of Cell Product Quality Research and Evaluation" of the State Food and Drug Administration in China.

Rong Limin said that the research project of Zhongshan Third Hospital to use stem cells to treat cerebrospinal cord injury has achieved preliminary results, and the scientific research team is also actively exploring stem cells to treat other encephalopathy such as Parkinson's. At present, the hospital has carried out 7 stem cell clinical research projects, ranking first among medical institutions in China.
