On April 28, Qualcomm released its financial report for the second fiscal quarter of 2022. Data show that Qualcomm's revenue for the fiscal quarter was $11.164 billion (about 73.3 billion yuan), an increase of 41% year-on-year, a record high, and net profit was $2.934 billion (about 19.3 billion yuan), up 68% year-on-year, and both revenue and profit rose sharply.

Qualcomm CDMA Technology Group's revenue for the quarter reached $9,548 million, up 52% year-over-year. Revenue from handheld devices increased by 56% year-on-year from handheld devices to $6.325 billion; revenue from the RF front-end business increased 28% year-over-year to $1.16 billion; revenue from the automotive business increased by 41% to $339 million; and revenue from the IoT business increased by $1.724 billion, up 61% year-over-year.

It can be seen from the financial report that Qualcomm's performance is in a state of vigorous development, especially the Snapdragon 5G chip products, and the revenue has risen by 56%. Although the performance of competitor MediaTek this quarter was also very eye-catching, Qualcomm was not greatly affected, with record revenue and sharp profits.

A few years ago, the high-end market of Android mobile phones can be seen as a battlefield for Qualcomm Snapdragon and Huawei HiSilicon Kirin to compete with each other, and the two are inseparable. Although MediaTek also has a market share that is not low, due to the weakness of performance, it can only appear on some low-end models, and it has no access to the market of more than 3,000 yuan.

However, since Huawei's mobile phone business was restricted and HiSilicon Kirin chips could not be produced, Qualcomm Snapdragon instantly lost competitors and quickly expanded in the mid-to-high-end market, swallowing up the market space vacated by Huawei. For a time, the high-end market was almost the only Qualcomm Snapdragon, and the performance of the past two years was also in a state of rapid growth.

However, MediaTek has also developed rapidly in the past two years, and the birth of the Tianji series of 5G chips, especially the emergence of the Tianji 700/800 series, has helped MediaTek quickly occupy the low-end 5G mobile phone market and expand its market share. In the second half of 2020, MediaTek's share of the global mobile phone Soc market finally surpassed Qualcomm and became the world's first.

This year, MediaTek once again brought two products of the Tianji 9000/8000 series, forming a confrontation with the Snapdragon 8 Series in the high-end market. It can be seen that MediaTek has completely caught up with Qualcomm's footsteps in terms of processor performance and market share, and Qualcomm is facing increasing competitive pressure.
