The survey results show that the per capita paper book reading of Chinese adults in 2021 was 4.76, higher than the 4.70 in 2020. The number of e-books read per capita was 3.30, up from 3.29 in 2020.

The appeal of paper books is undiminished. According to the survey, 45.6% of adult citizens in 2021 are inclined to "take a paper book to read", an increase of 2.2 percentage points over 2020.

At the same time, the reading rate of chinese adult national books was 59.7%, an increase of 0.2 percentage points over 2020; the reading rate of books for minors aged 0-17 was 83.9%, an increase of 0.5 percentage points over 2020.

Digital reading is sought after

E-books mainly focus on literary novels, biographies, history and social sciences, teaching materials and economic management.
