This "benevolence of the healer" has been buried in his heart since he was a child.

When he was 11 years old, Ge Junbo broke his left arm on a bicycle, and it was the old Chinese medicine doctor in his hometown who helped him cure it. Since then, he has germinated in his heart the dream of "treating the people of the world", and with this dream, he was admitted to Qingdao Medical College and eagerly learned medical knowledge.

With the rapid development of China's medical industry, the importance of cardiovascular diseases in China has become increasingly prominent. In 1990, Ge Junbo went to the University of Mainz in Germany to study interventional diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease. He painstakingly practiced the basic skills of interventional therapy surgery, discovered the "half-moon phenomenon", "fingertip phenomenon" and the drug treatment method of myocardial bridge, which were compiled into the international classic cardiovascular disease textbook, and he was also regarded as the "pioneer" of the international coronary myocardial bridge ultrasound diagnosis.

In Ge Junbo's view, as the beneficiaries of reform and opening up, his generation has enjoyed the fruits of reform and opening up, and has also gained the respect of society, and should do their best to give back to society. He's always been so persistent...

While investing great energy in the fields of clinical, scientific research, teaching, and innovation, Ge Junbo responded to the call of the state to actively participate in the precise poverty alleviation work of medical treatment, and regularly trained more than 1,000 doctors in poor areas for the new progress training class of cardiovascular medicine in Hudian through lectures, rounds, surgical guidance and other forms.

In 2017, Zhongshan Hospital officially launched the "Heart and Liver Baby" public welfare rescue activity, including Ge Junbo, a number of academicians have participated in it, and have successfully rescued 46 children with congenital heart disease and 14 patients with liver disease from poor families in Yunnan and Tibet. "For children living in highland areas, heart disease can seriously affect their daily lives. After this operation, they will be able to live like normal children and grow up healthy into 'flowers' that bloom in the highland area. Ge Junbo explained that after early detection and precise treatment of many diseases, patients can live like normal people. Successfully treating such a patient is to help the whole family.

Why is it committed to poverty alleviation? Ge Junbo said that as a front-line clinician, every day to face a lot of patients from relatively remote areas, many are difficult and complicated diseases, when they go to big cities, big hospitals to seek medical treatment, afraid of the road to lose the money to seek medical treatment, so they sew money to underwear.

"Whenever I see them carrying food, traveling thousands of miles to Shanghai to seek medical treatment, taking apart the thread, and feeling out the banknotes with body temperature to pay the fee, as a doctor, my heart will always be full of waves, and I tell myself: I must do something for them." 」 Ge Junbo sighed.

Since then, Ge Junbo has explored bringing more gospel to patients through continuous medical innovation.

In view of the key links of lethal stent thrombosis, he pioneered the "biodegradable coated stent" and "biodegradable stent" in China, and the international original "As2O3 new drug stent", which reduced the incidence of thrombosis in the advanced stent from 1.2% to 1.9%, significantly reducing medical costs and bleeding risks.

Breaking the traditional surgical forbidden area, he took the lead in carrying out "percutaneous mitral valve clamping" in China, and pioneered the "transcutaneous mitral valve clamping" and minimally invasive instrument ValveClamp, which significantly shortened the operation time and brought hope to about 30% of the elderly and frail, poor cardiac function, and could not be effectively treated because they could not tolerate surgery, which won the Best Innovation Award of the International Cardiovascular Innovation Conference (ICI) in 2018.

Looking back on the road to poverty alleviation, Ge Junbo said: "We not only give full play to the strengths of doctors, try our best to go to more places and help more patients, but also hope to benefit more people through innovation, and there are many things waiting for us in the future." (End)
