The U.S. Department of Defense released information on March 15, 2022, that the USS Montana (SSN-794) had been officially delivered to the U.S. Navy.
The boat is the 21st of the Virginia class, built by the Newport News Shipyard, and is the 10th Virginia class and the third Virginia class with the Block4 configuration. It started construction in May 2015 and was named in September 2020.

The Virginia class is becoming the workhorse of the U.S. Navy's attack nuclear submarines, with 28 ordered and begun construction. The boat has an underwater displacement of 7800 tons (7925 tons of later models), a length of 114.9 meters, a width of 10.36 meters, a maximum speed of 28 knots, and a crew of 132 people. It can operate in deep and shallow waters, performing anti-submarine, anti-surface ships, special operations support, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, mine laying and other tasks.
