The power of reading has always been together| cherish every day I can read, Wang Zhan and Fu Jie recommend books

On this special 4.23 World Book Day, reading makes us "close" to each other - under the epidemic, although travel presses the "pause button", reading at home and meditating will not stop.

Under the guidance of the Propaganda Department of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, the Shanghai Municipal Federation of Social Societies, Century Publishing Group and Wen Wei Po Specially planned the theme activity of "The Power of Reading , Always Together", which was launched on April 1, inviting Shanghai scholars and writers to make "1 + N" recommendations for readers - you can recommend an excellent book, you can also recommend a song, a movie, or even a good article, share reading and viewing experience, and highlight the strength of reading, the confidence and hope of spring travel with one heart.

Today, Wang Zhan, chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Federation of Social Societies, recommended "Civilization", "China's Global Strategy: Towards a Multipolar World", "Hub: 3000 Years of China", Fu Jie, Distinguished Professor of Ma Yifu College of Zhejiang University, recommended "Good Books Can Be Read for a Lifetime" and the movie "Bookstore".

Wang Zhan's recommendation:

Sealed for many days, a little time to read. Just after reading "Wang Yangming", I gave a small poem a feeling: "The study of the heart is not idealistic, the conscience is bright in the day and the moon; learning is to ask for learning, and those who know are accomplished in action." ”

Today is World Book Day, and I recommend the following three books to all of you. One is Civilization, written by neil Ferguson, a famous contemporary historian. Written in 2010 after the international financial crisis, his insights into the collision and change of civilizations in the East and the West are worth reading.

Neil Ferguson, one of Britain's most important financial historians, in his new book Civilization, delves into the development patterns of Eastern and Western civilizations, deeply analyzing the collision of Eastern and Western civilizations, arguing that the balance of world power is shifting from the West to the East.

The second is "China's Global Strategy: Toward a Multipolar World", written by the American female scholar Jenny Clegg. Focusing on China's role in the changing international order, the book focuses on the Chinese leadership's response to U.S. interventionism and unilateralism— a multilateral strategy that uses the vision of peaceful development to promote the formation of a multipolar world.

The third is "Hub: 3000 Years of China", the author Shi Zhan, a young and middle-aged scholar, graduated from the History Department of Peking University and taught at the China Foreign Affairs College, which is a masterpiece that has been completed in eight years from a new liberal arts perspective, and is worthy of special recommendation. The book mainly discusses the north-south triple structure of china's ancient grassland-farming-ocean from the Xia, Shangzhou to the end of the Qing Dynasty, and the east-west substructure of plain-oasis-plateau, and gives an internally coherent and unified explanation for the following problems: the formation of the "pluralistic unity" structure of the Chinese nation in ancient times, the great significance of the Chinese revolution for China's modern transformation, and the world significance of China as a world hub in political and economic aspects.

Fu Jie's recommendation: Cherish every day you can still read

World Book Day has been ushered in during the pandemic. I recommend "Good Books Can Be Read for a Lifetime" published by the Shanghai People's Publishing House, which I edited.

So do not avoid suspicion, first, because I am "thick skin", second, because the editor-in-chief is only an empty name, the actual content is Rong Xinjiang, Xu Jun, Chen Sihe, Chen Zishan and Chen Shangjun Zhu talked about their reading process and reading experience, is the transcript of their speech at Shanghai Zhida Bookstore.

Zhida Bookstore belongs to Shanghai Yueyue Book Company, and the owners, Zou Bin and Luo Hong, are students who listened to my class in Fudan more than 20 years ago. Over the past year or so, they have invited Xu Jun of the Zhonghua Bookstore, Yang Zhishui of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Rong Xinjiang, Fu Gang, Lu Yang, Ge Xiaoyin, Xin Deyong of Peking University, Mo Lifeng of Nanjing University, Yu Wanli of Zhejiang University, Liu Yingsheng, Chen Sihe, Chen Shangjun, Ge Jianxiong, Yao Dali, Wang Anyi, Zhou Zhenhe, Wu Zhongjie, Jiang Xiaoyuan of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Chen Zishan of East China Normal University, and Yu Yunguo of Shanghai Normal University to give lectures. The book is the first five gentlemen to take the stage, and the record is basically complete, including interactions with the audience, and is accompanied by more than 100 related pictures.

I would like to recommend such a book on World Book Day, not only can, but also should, I believe that the majority of readers can benefit from it. In this year's Chinese New Year's Eve, Yue Yue Books public account called for New Year messages, I wrote four sentences, copied here as a closing remark, in order to encourage readers and friends:

In a turbulent world,

In the ongoing outbreak,

Let us cherish each one,

I can still read books in a healthy and happy way.

In addition, I would like to recommend the film "Bookstore", which was co-produced by the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany, based on the novel of the same name by the late British female writer Penelope Fitzgerald.
