author:Three stone funny voiceover

Football memories are like our youth memories, as a post-80s I began to watch football in the 90s of the last century. This issue brings me memories of football, the absolute superstar - Hasselbaink, the late "Dutch heavy artillery".

Post-80s football memories - Hasselbaink, the late "Dutch heavy artillery"

Jimmy Hasselbaink (born 27 March 1972 in Paramaribo, Dutch Guiana (now Suriname) is a retired Dutch professional footballer and coach who played as a striker. He has played for Willisson Communications Satellite, Alkmaar, Campo Maior, Boavista, Leeds United, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Charlton, Cardiff City.

Hasselbaink is one of the representatives of dutch football superstars of Surinamese origin. Coming from a humble background, he was physically strong, explosive and excellent in his shooting skills, and stayed at Atletico and Chelsea at the peak of his career. Twice named premier league top scorer, he is considered one of the most important strikers of his generation.

Somewhat surprisingly, Hasselbaink was a goalkeeper at the earliest point on the pitch. Later, when his offensive talents were exposed, he moved forward and became a striker. After a brief stint with Communications Satellite, HasselHaynk joined Alkmaar in 1991. After leaving the team in 1993, he even fell into a situation where he could only play amateur games. Fortunately, the Campo Mayor club came to the aid in 1995, and Hasselbaink was able to continue his professional football dream. In 1996, he joined Boavista. After scoring 20 goals in 29 league games for the club in a single season, Leeds United signed Hasselbaink for £2 million in 1997. In such a talented football powerhouse as the Netherlands, Hasselbaink only began to be recognized at the age of 25, which can be regarded as a "late success".

In his second season at Leeds United, Hasselbaink shared the premier League top scorer with Liverpool striker Owen and Manchester United striker York with 18 goals, thus establishing himself as a first-class striker. In the summer of 1999, Hasselbaink switched to Atletico in La Liga. Here, Hasselbaink scored 24 goals in 34 La Liga games and 33 goals in 43 games in each line of the season, playing the best season of his career. However, atletico, who was plagued by civil unrest, was relegated that season and Hasselbaink did not choose to stay in the team, joining Chelsea in the summer of 2000.

After joining for a Chelsea record £15m, Hasselbaink came up with a convincing performance. Between 2000 and 2002, Hasselbaink scored 23 goals in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons and became the league's top scorer in the 2000–01 season. In the 2002–03 season, the 30-year-old Hasselbaink was in marked decline. When the Russian billionaire Abramovich bought Chelsea and the strength of the team rose, Hasselbaink could not find his own place. By the time he left in the summer of 2004, Hasselbaink had scored 88 goals in 177 games in four seasons, making him the club's memorable top scorer.

Hasselbaink then played for Middlesbrough and Charlton, where the number of league goals scored this season gradually slipped to just two. In the 2007–08 season, he also had a disappointing performance at Cardiff City in the Championship. After scoring nine goals in 44 games in each club's line that season, Hasselbaink announced his retirement and bid farewell to his role as a goalscorer. At the club, Hasselbaink left a good statistic of 251 goals in 591 career games. However, his performance in the Dutch national team is not very impressive. In the talented Orange Army forward, he failed to firmly occupy the main position. During his short national team career, Hasselbaink scored nine goals in 23 games and performed mediocrely.
