Volvo's Daqing plant produces S90 and S60. The online car market has learned that the plant will put into operation a new pure electric medium and large sedan in May 2024, code-named V551. The wheelbase of the new car reaches 3102mm, which is larger than the S90, so it can also be regarded as a pure electric "large S90", and its starting price is expected to be about 400,000 yuan, and the competitors include Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan (pure electric E-class) and so on. The Volvo V551 is available in both a rear-drive and four-wheel drive version, with a top speed of 180km/h, a total battery energy of 111kWh, and an annual production capacity of 28,000 units from the S90. In terms of price, the starting price of pure electric "large S90" is slightly lower than that of the fuel version of the S90 (starting at 406,900), which is in line with the pure electric/fuel XC40 pricing strategy, comparable to cadillac LYRIQ, and cheaper than the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan (estimated to start from 550,000).
According to Volvo's plan, it plans to become a luxury pure electric car company by 2030, and only sell pure electric vehicles in the future, and all its fuel and hybrid models will be gradually discontinued. In addition to the pure electric "large S90", it is expected that S60, XC60 and other electrification products will be launched one after another to help brand transformation.
