On April 14, Canalys released data showing that in the first quarter of 2022, global desktop and laptop shipments fell by 3% to just 80.06 million units due to significant geopolitics and weak consumer demand. However, the market is short of supply, computer prices continue to rise, and consumer demand for high-priced personal computers is also increasing, so the market revenue increased by more than 15% to reach $70 billion. Based on this estimate, the average price of personal computers rose by more than 18%, about 874 US dollars / unit (about 5568 yuan).

In the first quarter of 2022, Lenovo ranked first in the personal computer market shipments, but shipments fell 10% year-on-year to 18.2 million units; HP ranked second, but fell the most among the five major manufacturers, with shipments down 18% year-on-year to 15.8 million units; and Dell, ranked third, achieved a 6% increase in shipments to 13.7 million units due to its focus on the commercial market. Apple and Asus also rose aggressively, with shipments increasing by 8% and 24% respectively, ranking fourth and fifth. This is the first time since the third quarter of 2017 that ASUS has been ranked in the top five.

Canalys principal analyst said: "Computer ownership has grown significantly over the past two years, with more than 150 million new laptops and desktop computers added between 2019 and 2021. Even if customers are forced to delay their purchases in the short term due to price increases, the replacement of a large number of equipment is still inevitable, especially considering that more than 50% of the equipment is more than four years old.
