IT House reported on April 14 that TikTok is now testing a "dislike" button to help users "feel more in control of comments." Users in the test can tap on any comments they deem irrelevant or inappropriate. The social media giant unveiled the new feature in a blog post about fostering goodwill and security on the platform.
This effort aims to continue to create a real sense of engagement for users on TikTok. "To avoid creating a sense of malice among community members or demoralizing creators, only those who post on comments they don't like will be able to see the effect of the operation."
TikTok is also sending reminders to guide creators through their comment filtering and bulk blocking and deletion options. As part of the TikTok Security Initiative, these reminders are aimed at creators who receive a lot of negative reviews.
In addition, the company said it will soon update the test results to the public, as well as whether it will officially announce the "step" button to all users.
In today's transparency report, TikTok said it removed more than 85 million offending videos between October and December 2021 — about 1 percent of all videos uploaded to the app.
