Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, announced in a new Twitter video that the new feature focuses more on "immersive" photos and videos that use the commonplace 9 x 16 aspect ratio.

Mosseri hopes that the new 9 x 16 scale photos and videos will have a similar look to social media giant TikTok, making it easier to scroll through video streams seamlessly, increasing the amount of time users spend on Meta-owned social media apps.

Users can still use the bottom navigation bar to access the Discovery tab, reels, shopping, and profile. The option to add new posts, view likes and private messages / DM can also be found in the top bar. However, what was removed was the story bar. It looks like the story bar can show it by sliding down a little.

This new look for the Instagram homepage is currently in very early testing, with Mosseri pleading with users in Twitter videos to give feedback to the company, whether they like it or hate it.

That could mean that Instagram hasn't yet set the direction they want to go into the future.
