Since the independence of the Slovak Republic in 1993, criminal groups and terrorist organizations in Eastern Europe have been using Slovakia as an important conduit for smuggling weapons, drugs and prostitutes, and the Slovak State and people have suffered greatly. To prevent this from happening, UOU was established in 1996 with the main task of dealing with terrorist organizations and criminals. The specific functions involved are to combat mafia groups, to arrest and combat high-risk terrorists, to protect important Slovak high-ranking officials and to undertake the task of protecting foreign visiting heads of state and high-ranking officials.
The UOU has a strength of 100 people, although small, but each one is elite, under the highest leadership command of the national police force. It consists of three 20-man combat squads, a 30-man logistics administrative squad and a 10-man training squad. Depending on the combat mission, each tactical squad is also divided into 5 tactical detachments. Each year, the most elite police officers in the Slovak police department are selected, the most famous of which is the 5-day hell training, and only after passing the 5-day test can you join the UOU.
After passing the selection, the team members will also undergo 6 months of basic training, including high-intensity physical training, tactical training, shooting training in various postures, proficiency in the operation of various weapons, street fighting, explosive ordnance disposal, sniper training, negotiation, parachuting, etc.
UOU is often trained by elite special forces in other European countries to improve their combat skills. Among them are the Australian Cobra Force, the Slovenian Special Forces, the German GSG9, the Czech Special Forces.
