Riders earn more than 10,000 a day? SF Tongcheng responded to nearly 8,000 series of tips, facing a loss dilemma behind it

Nandu News Reporter Yan Zhaoxin Recently, there are pictures on the Internet showing that a SF knight in the same city achieved "daily income of more than 10,000 yuan" on April 9, with a single-day income of up to 10,067 yuan, which triggered heated discussions.

In this regard, SF Tongcheng released a note on the official Weibo on the evening of April 11, saying, "After our background inquiry, it was confirmed that the SF Tongcheng Knight completed a total of 60 delivery orders in the same city, which were placed by enterprise users, and the total amount of order commission accrued reached 10067.75 yuan." Is there a limit to the amount of tipping on the platform? The actual test saw that the maximum individual can only tip 25 yuan

The tip of up to 7856 yuan is staggering, will the platform limit the cost of tipping riders? The reporter of Nanduwan Finance Agency saw through the "SF Same City" mini program that when individuals use SF's same city delivery business, the maximum amount of tipping that can be given is 25 yuan, and there is no channel that can customize the tip amount.

So, where does the rider's average tip of about $131 per order come from? In this regard, the reporter of Nanduwan Finance News Agency asked SF in the same city, and as of press time, there has been no response.

Recently, due to the impact of the epidemic, some cities have experienced insufficient terminal distribution capacity, and the cost of same-city distribution has become the focus of attention. At a press conference on the prevention and control of the epidemic in Shanghai held on the morning of April 9, Gu Jun, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, said that the contradiction between the last kilometer and the last hundred meters of the same city delivery is more prominent.

In addition to the above-mentioned "daily income of more than 10,000 yuan", there are also various screenshots of high-priced delivery on the Internet, such as "the highest monthly income of riders since April has been 40,000 yuan", "a single price increase of 800 yuan", "6 kilometers to take dog food, 80 yuan for one kilometer", "freight 5,000 yuan flash drone" and other high-priced delivery screenshots. In this regard, netizens have different opinions, some people think that this is the "income from labor" of knights in the special period of the epidemic; but some netizens believe that it is not good to increase the tip in the extraordinary period to form a "high price" is a bad behavior.

Behind the rider's daily income of more than 10,000: SF's losses in the same city have expanded, and operating costs such as manpower outsourcing remain high

Nanduwan Finance Agency reporter saw in the screenshot of the network transmission that on April 9, the rider ran a total of 60 orders, if the average per order does not include the tip income of 36.9 yuan, the rider's daily income has reached 2214 yuan. If the rider maintains the same workload every day, the monthly income will even exceed 60,000 yuan, even if it does not include tips.

For the same-city distribution industry, this salary is not a small amount. Compared with the big data information on employment in the catering industry released by 58.com in 2021, the average monthly salary of food delivery workers is 10216 yuan. On the whole, the income of knights is affected by multiple factors such as distance and single volume, but in comparison, the income of knights in SF city is still much higher than the average.

However, behind the average revenue of 36.9 yuan per rider, the operating conditions of SF in the same city are not ideal.

Formerly known as the internal business department of SF Holdings, SF Tongcheng is also the fourth listed company of Wang Wei after SF Holdings, SF RealTory and Kerry Logistics, and was officially listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 14 December 2021. On March 30, 2022, SF Tongcheng announced its first "report card" since its listing.

According to the performance report, as of December 31, 2021, SF's revenue in the same city was RMB8.174 billion, an increase of 68.8% compared with RMB4.843 billion in 2022. However, the annual net loss was RMB890 million, representing a loss ratio of 11%. Compared with the loss of 750 million yuan in 2020, the loss was further expanded.

Why is revenue growing rapidly, but net profit continues to lose money? On the one hand, the reason is that the operating costs of SF in the same city remain high.

According to the latest performance report of SF Tongcheng, the cost of labor outsourcing in 2021 will reach 7.918 billion yuan, accounting for 98% of the total operating cost.

High cost expenditures have dragged down the profitability of SF in the same city. In 2018, 2019 and 2020, the cost and proportion of human outsourcing in SF Tongcheng continued to rise, even exceeding the revenue of the year, spending 1.05 billion yuan, 2.11 billion yuan and 4.86 billion yuan respectively, accounting for 85.4%, 86.4% and 96.6% of the operating costs respectively.

At the same time, SF Tongcheng's R&D and administrative expenses are also increasing. The performance report shows that in 2021, SF's R&D costs in the same city increased by 78% year-on-year, and administrative expenses increased by 56% year-on-year.

Under the background of the increase in human resources, research and development, administration and other costs, from 2018 to 2021, the operating costs of SF Tongcheng continued to be at a high level, with 1.225 billion yuan, 2.443 billion yuan, 5.032 billion yuan and 8.079 billion yuan respectively, an increase of 559% in three years.
