In the face of the endless emergence of new coordinates in the city, mobile phone navigation has saved countless confused car owners and pedestrians. However, the distance to completely get rid of the "road idiot" problem, there is still the "last piece of the puzzle" to speed up the completion - complex indoor scenes have spawned the demand for "indoor navigation", but limited by the limitations of space and signal, indoor navigation technology needs to be broken.

Megvii, which is known for its AI algorithms, has also been seeking and exploring low-cost, high-precision, and easy-to-use indoor visual positioning methods.

In 2019, during a creative collision discussion within Megvii, Megvii's algorithm researchers were inspired by the visual repositioning technology on their own robot products and came up with the idea of using cameras on mobile phones for visual positioning to find meeting rooms. After two years of continuous polishing and upgrading, the technology has been landed in reality, which is expected to accelerate the industry application of visual positioning systems.

Due to the complex and changeable indoor environment, the distance between rooms and objects is closer, and there are many equipment involved in positioning, and the requirements for indoor navigation on positioning accuracy are much higher than outdoors, especially in some industries involving high-speed mobile equipment positioning, the requirements for accuracy are high, and the requirements for positioning delay are also very harsh.

Indoor navigation, which is common in the market, mainly relies on Bluetooth, WiFi and other technologies for identification, which is also inevitably prone to problems such as high cost, low accuracy, and limited use of the scene. Especially in relatively closed venues, even if there is a mobile or WiFi signal, but the scene is crowded with tens of thousands of people, the mobile phone signal is poor, and it is almost impossible to complete the navigation. With the diversification and complexity of application scenarios and the continuous improvement of user experience requirements, indoor navigation at this stage urgently needs new technologies to be upgraded and improved.

Compared with other indoor positioning technologies, indoor visual positioning technology has the characteristics of high precision and easy deployment, without the need for secondary transformation of the indoor building environment, only the use of laser visual map acquisition equipment for the existing environment collection, you can achieve positioning function, and the traditional GPS positioning of 5 meters accuracy, WiFi, Bluetooth positioning of 1-3 meters accuracy to sub-meter accuracy.
