New discoveries

● A few days ago, the insect resource utilization team of the Institute of Recreational Agriculture of the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences found a "bride price" of insects in fossils from the Cretaceous period 100 million years ago: a saliva ball secreted by the male insects of the genus Oblatehorn, a group of basal taxons of the general family of maitake, which was sealed in a Burmese amber. Based on the morphology of the "bride price" in amber and the characteristics of living insects such as feeding habits, herd behavior, hunting behavior, and "bride price offering" behavior, the researchers further reconstructed the relevant evolutionary history. Studies have confirmed that the "bride price" behavior is not an accidental event for insects, but a primitive, common means of addressing the lack of nutrition in females when they reproduce their offspring. The results have been published in the international geological journal Gondwana Studies. (Source: Science and Technology Daily)

Among them, the meat skewers are the earliest actual lamb skewers found in China so far. (Source: China News Network)
