"Yeah, my brother won the gold medal." At about 4 p.m. on August 25, in Yanghe Town, Huaying City, Li Jinyang and his sister Li Yulu jumped up from the sofa happily, and immediately picked up their mobile phones to tell their mother Yu Dingqiong, who was still doing farm work.

On the same day, the Wheelchair Fencing Competition of the Tokyo Paralympic Games kicked off, and China's Li Hao defeated Ukraine's Manko 15:12 in the men's sabre individual A-class final to win the first gold medal of the Tokyo Paralympic Games for the Chinese sports delegation.

In a car accident at an early age, he learned to "compete"

Li Hao is the older brother of Li Jinyang and Li Yulu. Knowing that their brother had a game, the brothers and sisters stayed by the TV all afternoon. Unfortunately, the television station did not broadcast the fencing match. While watching the swimming competition, they suddenly interjected the news of Li Hao's victory. "I was very excited, but I knew my brother had this strength and was not surprised." Li Jinyang said.

Li Hao was born in 1994, a native of Huayingyang and Zhen. At the age of 2, a car accident resulted in the amputation of his right leg. Yu Dingqiong recalled that at that time, she took Li Hao to rent a house in Huaying, and when she was chatting with friends, a large truck crashed over, resulting in tragedy. "Now that I think about it, I want to cry, and at that time he was still young, and he was going to suffer this crime."

Although his right leg is disabled, Li Hao is very cheerful and likes sports. Li Jinyang said that as long as Li Hao is at home, the family is very lively, and he keeps talking non-stop. Li Hao does not like to stay at home, likes to climb trees, and runs fast. "I can't beat him. On the bumps in the road, if a normal person can climb up, he must climb up, as if he is competing. ”

From swimming to fencing, he left Sichuan to go to Shanghai to break a path

In 2007, a fortuitous opportunity changed the trajectory of Li Hao's life.

At that time, Li Hao was 13 years old and could already ride a bicycle with one foot. One day, he rode to school with people and rode very fast. This was seen by a cadre of the Guang'an Disabled Persons' Federation and the idea of taking him to the sports road came to mind. So the cadre asked the driver to follow Li Hao all the way to the school, and suggested to the school that he be sent to Guang'an and embark on the road of sports. And this is in line with Li Hao.

In the beginning, Li Hao learned to swim. But with age, Li Hao's height reached 1 meter 86, belonging to the thin and tall type. The coach believes that although the amputation prevents him from making strides like other fencers, the height advantage allows him to have an arm length that many athletes envy in wheelchair fencing.

So he began to learn wheelchair fencing at the suggestion of his coach. In 2015, Li Hao traveled from Sichuan to Shanghai and joined the Shanghai Wheelchair Fencing Team. Yu Dingqiong recalled that he was very reluctant to Li Hao, but he thought that he could break a path by his own ability, and he was still very supportive.

When he first arrived in Shanghai, Li Hao often called home and told his family about his life in Shanghai. Yu Dingqiong said that he generally reported good news rather than worry, and only said that he had a good life in Shanghai.

But as a mother, Yu Dingqiong could hear that Li Hao's voice was choking, as if he was crying, and it was obvious that the training was very hard. And from the video sent back by Li Hao, you can see that his training clothes have broken a lot of holes, and there are many wounds left by training on his body. "Although it is heart-wrenching, I encourage him to train hard and try to make a name for himself." Yu Dingqiong said.

I hope that Li Hao will go home early and let his family see the Paralympic gold medal

Li Hao has a good relationship with his younger siblings. Li Jinyang was studying for a master's degree at Chongqing University, and Li Hao often called his brother and asked him if his living expenses were enough. "My family is not rich, my father works in Chengdu, my mother works in the farm at home, and if I don't have my brother's help, I will be very poor in school." Li Jinyang said.

In Li Hao's home, there are many medals, which he has won in competitions for many years. For Li Hao to win in the competition, the family has become accustomed to it. When Li Hao won the gold medal, Yu Dingqiong did not stay in front of the TV to watch his son's game, but did farm work as usual. "If the grades are good, he will send me a video, and I can see it." Yu Dingqiong said that she felt that no matter what the results were, she was satisfied that her son could fight on the Paralympic stage. What I am most looking forward to now is that Li Hao will come home early and let me see the Paralympic gold medal as well.
