Although we all know that Musk is rich, the richest man in the world's top three richest people, and he likes to open cross-industry companies (such as Tesla, the US production and sales of electric vehicle companies, and SpaceX, the US space exploration technology company, he is also interested in investing in social media platforms.
On Tuesday (April 5), local time, Twitter announced that Tesla CEO Elon Musk Elon Musk will join the company's board of directors. A day earlier, Musk was exposed to buying more than 9% of Twitter's stock, becoming its largest shareholder. Knowing the news, analysts and investors alike were trying to figure out what that meant for Twitter and how much influence he really had on twitter.
Twitter, however, said that even if Musk gets a board seat, he will not be given special treatment on the platform. A Twitter spokesperson said the platform is "committed to developing and enforcing its policies and rules fairly," meaning Musk will be just like everyone else
Subject to the same rules as Twitter. In other words, Twitter may still ban or pause Musk's posts if necessary. It seems that Musk, the major shareholder, does not have the privilege of tweeting.
Speaking about Musk's potential impact, a Twitter spokesperson said Musk and other board members do not have the authority to set corporate policies. The spokesperson added: "Our policy decisions are not made by the board or shareholders. While the company's board of directors plays an important role in guidance and feedback, day-to-day operations and decisions are made by Twitter management and employees. From these two restrictions, Musk's influence in joining Twitter may take a while to become apparent.
