But this time, Indonesia and Hungary told the United States that it would not succumb to hegemonic pressure.
On April 2, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict came to the 38th day, and Putin ushered in three pieces of good news.
First, Indonesia refused to kick Russia out of the G20.
Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau has publicly stated that he does not want to see Putin at the G20 summit. Trudeau believes that the top priority of the G20 summit is to exchange how to promote global economic growth, but Russia's "invasion" of Ukraine has caused harm to the global economy, so Russia should be excluded from the G20.
After the NATO summit, Biden expressed similar views, but India, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and other countries have very different views from the Group of Seven.
As the host of the 2022 G20 summit, Indonesia said that Indonesia has issued an invitation to all G20 member countries, including Russia, which is Indonesia's obligation, and Indonesia will adhere to a fair and neutral attitude.
Indonesia believes that the G20 summit should not be interrupted by the Ukraine crisis, and it is an issue that Indonesia needs to consider to eliminate differences and ensure the stability of the G20.
Earlier, the United States had told Indonesia that if Putin attended the G20 summit, then Ukraine should also attend, and Indonesia rejected the request.
Russia thanked Indonesia for its support, stressing that Moscow endorses Indonesia's view that the G20 summit should discuss economic issues.
The Indonesian government's decision to refuse to kick Russia out of the G20 was supported by the Indonesian parliament and the public.
For now, G20 members such as India, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia do not support kicking Russia out of the G20. If the United States is allowed to act arbitrarily, in time, the United States can repeat the same trick and kick out the G20 from the countries that do not look good.
Second, the United States rarely shows weakness to Russia. Reuters revealed that the US military said that in order to ease tensions with Russia, the United States canceled the test of the "Minuteman 3" intercontinental missile, and the US military is full of confidence in the strategic state of the US strategic force.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has made it clear that if a third world war occurs, the result must be a nuclear war. During this time, in order to deter Western countries led by the United States, Putin has not less than shown nuclear deterrence, such as putting Russia's nuclear forces into a state of combat readiness and sending a tough signal that "if Russia's security is threatened, nuclear weapons will be used."
Relatively speaking, the U.S. response has been restrained. The United States not only refuses to send troops to Ukraine, refuses to set up an "air defense zone" on the Ukrainian mainland, and is not even willing to provide Offensive weapons for Ukraine. The weapons obtained by the Ukrainian army from the United States are basically used for defense, such as "Stinger" anti-aircraft missiles and "Javelin" anti-tank missiles, and the range and lethality are not large.
The reason why the United States wants to do this is to prolong the war time, the United States does not want the Russian army to make a quick decision, nor does it want the Ukrainian army to have the strength to counterattack the Russian army.
Another thing is that the United States does not want to annoy Russia.
Compared with NATO, in the military field, what Russia can get its hands on is basically nuclear deterrence, and russia is inferior to the United States in terms of conventional military strength and economic base. If Russia has no way back, Putin may indeed use nuclear warheads.
But then again, in order to avoid provoking Russia, the United States did not even dare to test-fire ballistic missiles, and indeed some were too afraid of the Russian nuclear warhead.
From another point of view, Putin's nuclear deterrence strategy is indeed very useful, and the United States must always take into account Russia's emotions, after all, Russia has only one trump card.
Third, Hungary has once again made its position clear that it will not buy high-priced natural gas from the United States. Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán said the idea of expecting the United States to supply Europe with enough gas was not feasible for EU member states, and in Hungary's view, Russian gas was the only option.
Orbán stressed that Hungary does not support Russia's launch of special military operations against Ukraine and understands the various attempts when Ukraine is in trouble, but Hungary will not provide weapons for Ukraine, nor will it let other countries transport weapons for Ukraine through Hungary.
Orbán said "Russian gas must be imported", just after Putin stressed that "the EU must buy Russian gas in rubles". This means that the demands of the United States, the accusations of Ukraine, are useless in Hungary, and the starting point of Orbán's foreign strategy is only to safeguard Hungary's interests, not to pay for the interests of the United States or Ukraine.
This is indeed good news for Russia, which desperately needs energy orders.
After all, Hungarians don't want to be frozen in the cold wind, after all, the price of natural gas in the United States and the cost of transportation are not acceptable to the Hungarian people. In the face of interests, Hungary has chosen a pragmatic strategy.
