Born in 1978, the martyr Tao Wei is the second son of Tao Fuhai, before Tao Wei became a soldier, they lived in Sanxing Street, although the life was simple, but the family was happy and harmonious. Tao Fuhai and his wife like Tao Wei very much, and their family lives in the downtown area, but Tao Wei has not been greedy since he was a child, loves to learn, is self-motivated, and likes to read. In December 1995, Tao Wei enlisted in the army, Tao Fuhai and his wife were sent to the station, before parting, Tao Wei also told him not to throw away his books, he will still be able to use it in the future military school.
After two months of training for recruits, Tao Wei was assigned to the fire squadron of the Armed Police Huaihua Jingzhou Miao and Dong Autonomous County. Only half a year after joining the army, in the first half of 1996, he was rated as an advanced individual in the brigade and was commended by the detachment once. On July 16, 1996, Jingzhou encountered a rainstorm rarely seen in a century, and flash floods broke out, and the county seat was a vast ocean. At 10 o'clock in the evening, a fire broke out in the Feishan Farmers' Market in the county town, and Tao Wei followed closely behind the squad leader Zhou Qingjiang, braved the storm, climbed up to the second floor to reconnoiter the fire, quickly threw himself into the fire fighting, and quickly extinguished the fire under the efforts of him and the comrades of the whole class.
In the early morning of July 17, the cadres of the brigade and the squadron had gone out on a mission, and Tao Wei was on standby at home under the leadership of the squad leader, and at this moment, the Jingzhou County Disaster Relief Command issued an order order, ordering them to quickly rush to the vicinity of the Oriental Hotel on Quyang Middle Road to rescue dozens of people in distress who were trapped by floods. The situation is critical. Under the leadership of Liu Xinliang, the fire prevention staff officer of the brigade, Tao Wei took the lead, took the hook ladder and the safety rope, and ran to the middle of Quyang Road. He and 5 other firefighters and men waded into the water to the railway bridge of Quyang Middle Road, overcame many difficulties, in the torrent that flooded to the chest, swam arm in arm towards the besieged masses, rushed to the front of Zhou Qingjiang and Tao Wei first heard the cries of the masses in front of them, just as they swam to the crowd only 50 meters away, a sudden two-meter-high flood peak like a wild horse that had lost its reins, pounced on them, they were unfortunately swept away by the ferocious flood peak, the flood peak first hit the front of Tao Wei into the water, rolled up, and then hit the bottom of the water... At about 7 a.m. on the 18th, the flood water gradually receded, and after several efforts by the search personnel, the hero's body was finally found from the mud and sand.
What makes Tao Fuhai very sad is that his son Tao Wei was only 18 years old when he died heroically to save people's lives and property. Tao Fuhai told reporters that after Tao Wei's sacrifice, the army and the government held a solemn memorial service for him, posthumously remembering the first class merit, and the Hunan Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Youth League awarded Tao Wei the glorious title of "Model Youth in Fighting Floods and Rushing to Danger," and the society also gave him a lot of care.
