Ever since the unveiling of the new Mercedes-AMG SL, we already know that plug-in hybrid models are coming. Recently, Volkswagen Kanche obtained a set of unabashed spy photos of Mercedes-AMG SL63 E-Performance plug-in hybrid from foreign media.
The charging port on the bumper of this road test vehicle betrayed it as a hybrid model, the only major difference from the regular AMG SL equipped with a fuel engine. Since Mercedes has already previewed the all-new SL, no longer needs any disguise.
The all-new SL and the upcoming AMG GT Coupe share its platform, which should get power-hungry consumers excited, as the car shares a hybrid system with the four-door AMG GT that can generate a lot of power.
In terms of power, the AMG GT 63 E Performance is equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and an electric motor, with a maximum power of 831 hp, a maximum torque of 1400 Nm, an acceleration of only 2.9 seconds per 100 km/h and a top speed of 315 km/h. The motor integrates a two-speed transmission and an electronically controlled limited slip differential to ensure better grip and performance.
Since the coupé is smaller than a sedan, it is expected to be lighter to drive, although mercedes-AMG may also be limited by battery space. In addition, two plug-in hybrid models, or named SL63e, have a power of about 700 horsepower, and an 831-horsepower SL63 E-Performance.
The new Mercedes-AMG SL was released last October and is currently on sale with two V8 models. The SL55 has 470 horsepower, while the SL63 has 577 horsepower, both with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The entry-level SL43 will be powered by the same 2.0T four-cylinder engine as the A45S with a 48V light mix, which can produce about 385 horsepower.
