Yesterday, fengxian museum sponsored the "first Chinese oil painting collection status and protection seminar" held online, the seminar invited 16 domestic and foreign museums, art galleries, oil painting protection and restoration experts, collectors, artist representatives, on the current situation of oil painting collection and the protection and utilization of the collection to carry out exchanges and discussions, more than 200 industry insiders and enthusiasts through the Tencent online conference to participate in the meeting, the museum headlines live broadcast the conference, attracting more than 10,000 industry insiders and enthusiasts to watch.

As a special agenda item for the seminar, the exhibition "The Restoration Diary – The Rebirth of an Oil Painting" is being held at the Fengxian Museum, which is related to a 1950s Iranian oil painting, Portrait of Faroque Gafari. The collector of this painting, Mariam Gafari, was born in Tehran and grew up in Paris. The character in the painting is none other than her father, Faroque Gafari. Faroque Gafari, an Iranian New Wave director who directed one of Iran's earliest neorealist films, Seongnam, settled in Paris after 1979 until his death in 2006, a painting that accompanied two generations of its owners between Europe and Asia.

The Fengxian Museum Cultural Relics Restoration Center will undertake the commissioned restoration of related collections in 2021. The team conducted a meticulous investigation of the diseases of the collection, formulated a special restoration route for the particularity of the disease, and under the guidance of the concept of modern cultural relics restoration, the collection was restored and intervened in a scientific and standardized way, effectively managing the multi-faceted diseases of the collection, and finally allowing the works to be preserved to the greatest extent at the level of material relics and be able to face the audience. The restoration team used a variety of scientific and technological detection and analysis methods to not only provide detailed information about the material process of the painting, but also revealed a "story" that has been sealed in history for 70 years - according to the collector's recollection, the creator of the oil painting should be Fatola Kulal Agassi, an artist of the famous Iranian painting group "Cafe School", but an optical imaging during the restoration process revealed a signature covered by a layer of paint, which brought new clues to the authorship of the work. It also opens a new window for the study of art historiography of the work.
