In the early 1970s, in jurong Maozhuang village, he lived in this newly built new home for three or four years. The half-grassed, half-tiled houses are not sheltered from wind and snow, and the dim kerosene lamp reflects the thoughts and dreams of a young man.

He recalled that when building a house in those years, due to insufficient money, the four-bay room could only have two bays with "foreign tiles". After the Spring Festival in 1969, Chen Hesheng, who was only 19 years old, left Nanjing for Jurong Maozhuang Village. At first, he and his companions were arranged to live in an old mother's house, which was dimly lit and there was a mouthful of shou material parked. "We, the children in the city, were a little scared when we first went." Chen Hesheng recalled that he lived in a house he had cleaned out of a pile of firewood and grass, and the pig pen was opposite.
In 1970, the village began to build houses for them, and a total of four rooms were built, two of which were covered with grass and two with tiles. When the house is built and is about to be beamed, according to rural customs, red paper must be pasted.
A year later, he finally moved into a new home, which was much better than the environment in which he had lived, but the conditions were still very simple. The window is a narrow slit, no window frame, no glass, raindrops will sprinkle in on rainy days, and snow will drift in on snowy days. When he encountered the northwest wind, he rolled up the straw and stuffed the window hole. As soon as the window was plugged in, the house was completely dark, and only the kerosene lamp could be lit. Because you can't afford kerosene, the kerosene lamp is actually diesel, which is the only light source in the home.
In this new house at that time, he lived for nearly 4 years.

After nearly half a century, Chen Hesheng has long returned to Nanjing and lives in a high-rise residential area with a quiet environment. But in the depths of his memory, he could never forget the old house built of half grass and half tiles, the yellow earth complex that haunted his heart.
"Can't forget, can't forget." Whenever Chen Hesheng mentioned this experience, it was like opening a conversation box and gushing endlessly, feeling that he could not finish it for several days and nights.
Why is it so memorable? Chen Hesheng admitted that in fact, when he lived in it, he was in a very calm mood and was not particularly excited because of the improvement of living conditions, because he was more looking forward to continuing to study. But it was there that he used to read under the dim kerosene lamp, let his mind fly, look forward to the future and dreams, and miss his hometown and relatives. Decades later, the scenes of life in the hut are still vividly remembered.
He has a good relationship with the local compatriots, and he has not stopped coming and going since he left. Later, the house was used to raise mushrooms and cattle. In 1994, he returned to the old house and took a group photo with his best friend in front of the cowshed. Today, in his opinion, this "historical photo" is also very precious.
