In 1986, a large archaeological excavation made a small place with no name - Sichuan Guanghan Sanxingdui famous, this excavation unearthed a lot of precious cultural relics, such as bronze figures, bronze masks with protruding eyes, towering bronze trees... The peculiarity of the shape of these artifacts is unprecedented. So who cast these weirdly shaped bronze statues? Why has such a thriving culture disappeared?
Standing in front of the bronze statue of Sanxingdui, I believe that everyone will be surprised, this bronze statue is 1.72 meters high, dressed in a dovetail robe, wearing a flower-shaped high crown, with various intricate decorative patterns. The figure has thick eyebrows, big eyes, a wide mouth and square face, a long neck and big ears, both hands on the chest, barefoot, and stands very upright on the square seat of the animal head. The bronze masks are even more unique, the largest convex mask, its columnar pupil bulge reached 16.5 cm, its diameter is also 13.5 cm. Both bronze figures and bronze masks prominently represent the most important organs in the human body, the eyes or pupils. Experts speculate that the residents of Sanxingdui more than 4,000 years ago may have worshipped the eye, believing that it is the main organ of insight into all things, the main organ of discerning right from wrong, the main driving force for conquering nature, and the symbol of human wisdom. Sanxingdui residents anthropomorphized their most worshipped ancestors into eyes or pupils.
The 4-meter-high bronze tree is even more full of mysterious colors: the pair of big birds that sing in the sky, the fairy fruit that seems to flutter with the wind, the dragon that spirals down... What does it all mean? What is such a huge sacred tree used for? It's still an unsolved mystery. Some people think that this is a sacred tree that people use to reach the heavens and the earth and realize the communication between man and god, and it is through this sacred tree that the wizards and leaders who participate in the Sanxingdui sacrifice activities understand the will of the gods. The birds on the sacred trees may be the main totem of the sanxingdui residents, and they are also the symbol of the clan tribes. Before and after the Han Dynasty, Sichuan residents were superstitious about cash cows, believing that it was the source of wealth and the god of wealth. In many ancient tombs and ruins of the Han Dynasty, sacred trees symbolizing wealth were often unearthed. Sanxingdui God Tree is a cash cow in the popular sense.
What is even more unbelievable is that a royal staff was unearthed in the Sanxingdui site: this royal staff is 142 centimeters long, made of wood as bone, and rolled with pure gold skin. The golden staff is engraved with two figures with high crowns and four groups of fish and birds. Each group of fish and birds has a fish and two birds, strung together by a feathered arrow shaft. This may be a sign of a totem or clan emblem. In the Shang and Zhou civilizations contemporaneous with the Sanxingdui culture and the various dynasties in China after that, the emperors used the clothes they wore and the crown hats they wore to express their identity, and never formed a sense of scepter.
The controversy over individual artifacts is still a minor issue, and the greater confusion lies in who created such a peculiar culture, which can be summed up in three very different views, namely, the silkworm bush state theory, the fish country theory, and the foreign civilization theory.
Those who hold the "silkworm bush state theory" believe that in ancient China, all the countries that created civilization were more or less written in the vast history books. Sichuan region, due to the barrier of the natural environment and wars, rarely interacted with the Central Plains, but in ancient Chinese books, there is still a considerable number of books on the countries in this region, according to these documents, we can understand that the western Sichuan Plain area was called Shu in ancient times, and the state was established in ancient times, and the king was called the Silkworm Cong Clan, and his facial feature was "longitudinal". Some scholars believe that the vertical eye is the pupillary protrusion, which coincides with the bronze statue and bronze mask image we introduced above. Therefore, the Sanxingdui culture, that is, the culture created by the silkworm cong country, currently adheres to this statement.
The "Yu Wei Guo Zhi" is also based on the records of the literature, that is, the "Huayang Guozhi". In this book, it is said that in ancient times, there was indeed a country called Shu in the Western Sichuan Plain, and its king was not a silkworm bush, but a fish, so this country was also known as the kingdom of the Fish Clan. With Guanghan as its capital, the Kingdom of the Yu clan had a very large territory, a strong country, and a very prosperous commercial trade, and was once the political, economic and cultural center of southwest China. The activity area of the Yuxingdui Kingdom is exactly the area where the Sanxingdui culture is distributed, so the Sanxingdui culture is the culture created by the Yuxingdui Kingdom, and these relics are also a reflection of the life images of the kingdom's wizards, tribal leaders and general sacrificers.
The most novel view is the "foreign civilization theory", the various bronzes and jades unearthed by the Sanxingdui culture are not cultural relics in the local traditional culture, nor are they more traditional cultural relics in the ancient peoples of northern or southern China, let alone the traditional cultural relics of the ancient tribes surrounding the neighbors. These bronze statues and large masks in Sanxingdui are incompatible with traditional Chinese culture. More scholars believe that in the comparison with ancient relics around the world, no civilization similar to the Sanxingdui culture has been found, and the complex casting process and strange artifact shape are not in line with the thinking of the earthlings. Therefore, it is very likely that the Sanxingdui culture is not an earth culture, but a foreign culture, a culture created by aliens according to their own image and thinking.
The creator of Sanxingdui is an unsolved mystery, and the disappearance of Sanxingdui is even more mysterious. These mysteries have plagued generations of scholars and inspired them to work hard and explore. At the same time, it also leaves a lot of imagination space for our science fiction.
