How to design a kindergarten where children can get close to nature and explore happily anytime, anywhere? We use the design story of this "lotus leaf rain dew" to do some exploration and solutions.

This case is located in Liandu District, Lishui City, in the southwest of Zhejiang Province, the source of the six rivers in Zhejiang and Fujian, surrounded by mountains and waters, in the middle of the mountains, shaped like lotus petals, and because of Lishui's specialty "Chuzhou White Lotus", Liandu District is named after "Lotus".

The design draws inspiration from the "lotus", with "lotus leaf rain dew" as the design concept, the cascading softness of the lotus leaves gives the campus a gentle and inclusive shape; the crystal clarity of the dewdrops symbolizes the pure heart of young children like morning dew, implying that the bright pearl shines on the shore of the park lake, and strives to create a green ecological campus facing the future and connecting with nature.

"Lotus Leaf Rain Dew"

Considering the influence of high-rise residential buildings on the south side of the base on the sunshine of the plot, first of all, the main buildings are laid out in layers along the north side of the base, receding from south to north, forming a rich activity platform, and the boundaries of indoor and outdoor spaces are hidden; secondly, the centralized activity venue is set in the east side of the park, with a wide view, beautiful scenery and close to nature; then, the structure is deepened, the edges are softened, and a cascading "lotus leaf" form is formed; finally, a "lotus leaf rain dew" campus that operates efficiently and actively opens on the lakeside is presented here.

The quality of rigidity and softness

Interpreting the architectural form in the shape of a lotus leaf, the meaning of the lotus canopy and dewdrops is taken as the design element, representing the spiritual label of this garden. The building reflects the softness of the lotus leaves with the stacking of laminates and the smooth contours, and the warm and inclusive space cares for the growth of children; with white and wood as the main colors, reflecting affinity and nature.

The more ingenious design unfolds in the space under the eaves, irregularly progressing from bottom to top, and stretching outwards, like layers of lotus leaf umbrellas, sheltering children who are playing in the school. The slender columns and slowly stretching top surface respond to the unique rigidity and softness of the lotus.

The circular activity venues scattered on the grounds and the roof are like crystal dewdrops on lotus leaves, and they merge with the buildings to form a beautiful picture scroll spreading on the shore of the park lake.

Naturally occurring teaching

Under the premise of meeting the requirements of standardized functions, the design pays full attention to the diversity of teacher-student interaction and the complexity of the teaching environment in teaching, and provides a teaching environment with as diverse and changeable spaces as possible, so that many teaching behaviors can be generated naturally.

The design uses an aggregate layout pattern: the west side of the inner courtyard activity space, the southeast side of the event site and the north side of the layout of the building are connected by an elevated corridor. The design elements are natural wood, stone, real lawn and a wide variety of trees, so that children can learn from natural materials in their daily lives.

The garden composed of architecture, green space and courtyard together forms a new urban landscape, making the kindergarten also a symbol of nature, developing a life style and mental state that is closer to nature for childhood, and actively responding to the changing growth environment.

Continuous active exploration

At the same time, the design of the multi-path intertwined streamline system for children's active nature layout, each floor rational layout of the corresponding functional classrooms and activity space, indoor and outdoor convergence into a surrounding space, classrooms and activity venues into a system that can be cycled back and forth, the starting point is the end, and the continuous traffic flow line creates a never-ending running and playing experience.

A kindergarten that triggers active exploration allows children to become true active constructors of knowledge rather than passive teaching goals. The diverse vertical traffic spaces are fun to explore and discover on their own.

In the green space, playground, tree, lawn and flora and fauna activity observation camp, each child can play freely in different gardens and experience the experience of growing up in outdoor activities.

Warm and bright interior

The design of the indoor space of the kindergarten echoes the theme of "Lotus Leaf Rain and Dew", which aims to allow children to release unlimited potential, be willing to create, love to think, and cultivate their comprehensive quality of exploring the world indoors.

The event hall adopts the partial overhead of the first floor, so that the internal place is connected to the outdoor landscape, creating a flowing semi-outdoor space narrative. Sky blue ground, leaf green cushioned round seats, wood-colored grilles and roofs, children run and play in it like swimming on the turquoise lake, jumping on the lotus leaves, like a smart little fish and a lively little frog.

Each space scale of the activity classroom respects the needs of children's height, behavior habits and teacher-student interaction, and uses warm curves and bright and spacious to make the indoor space transparent and interesting in action and vision. The arched doors and wall shelves continue the gentle rhythm, and the warm and comfortable furniture is placed neatly and orderly, creating a family-like safe atmosphere as much as possible, allowing children to relax and immerse themselves in the small world of knowledge.

Message
