The decline of football's greatest trident: 363 goals in the past, this season totals only 16

One of the greatest striker combinations in the history of world football is Barcelona's MSN: including Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez. The trio have excelled in camp Nou's brief three years, winning two La Liga titles, one Champions League title, three Copa del Rey and one Club World Cup. The talent, relentless goalscoring and tireless work ethic of the South American players have made the "MSN" offensive fears into the hearts of every defender in Spain and Europe. From the start of the 2014-15 season to the end of the 2016-17 season, Neymar traveled to Paris Saint-Germain, and they scored a total of 363 goals. It is worth noting that the performance of the three of them is very selfless. It's easy for conceited people to succeed among them, but respect for each other trumps everything, which benefits Barcelona a lot. Unfortunately, the performance of every player in MSN is declining these days, and in the 2021-22 season we watched all three of the superstars slip into the abyss. In fact, Messi and Neymar reached their lowest point in years last weekend as they lost to Real Madrid in the champions league in midweek and were therefore booed by Paris Saint-Germain fans.

Messi in the 2021-2022 season

In the summer of 2021, Messi left Barcelona unexpectedly. The Argentine admitted he didn't want to leave the club, but the club itself revealed they would no longer be able to pay his salary due to financial problems. He will then move to Paris Saint-Germain, but he has not been able to reach the heights he reached in Barcelona. So far, Messi has scored just two goals in Ligue 1, although he has 10 assists. Even though he is now more of a creator than a goalscorer, the lack of goals is worrying.

Neymar in the 2021-22 season

Neymar's fall was the most serious of the three, largely because of his shocking record of injuries at Paris Saint-Germain. Since moving to the French capital, Neymar has missed 101 games at Paris Saint-Germain due to injury. The Brazilian has never played more than 20 Ligue 1 games in a single season in five seasons for Paris Saint-Germain. In three of the previous four seasons he played less than 50% of Ligue 1 matches. In 2021/22, he scored five goals in all competitions and recorded five assists.

Luis Suarez in the 2021-2022 season

Two summers ago, Ronald Koeman informed Suarez that his time at Barcelona was over. The Uruguayan apparently took this as a humiliation to him and subsequently signed for Atletico. He then became one of the best players in La Liga that season as Atletico beat Real Madrid and Barca to la Liga titles, and Suarez scored 21 league goals in the process. His performances this season and his importance to Atletico as a whole have declined as he has only scored nine goals in the game. A spat with Diego Simeone also affected his influence on the team, and he had to compete for the forward position against Griezmann, Correa and João Felix.
