In recent weeks, there have been some hearsay about the release date of EA's Dead Space remake. But now the publisher has taken action to put an end to the rumors, directly announcing the launch of this survival horror game, with plans in early 2023.
Although developer EA Motive has repeatedly stressed that it is still in the early stages of development after announcing Dead Space, VentureBeat reporters wrote a report late last year that gave fans hope that it would arrive as early as this fall. This week, however, the media revised the original statement to say that the EA is now aiming to be released in early 2023. And, in the latest Dead Space developer livestream, the publisher finally officially announced this.
Asked when Dead Space fans will get a remake of EA Motive, senior producer Philippe Ducharme revealed that the game is currently in the pre-alpha phase of development.
Ultimately, Ducharme said the studio wants to "build the game it offers on top of the expectations of its fans," and with that in mind, it's currently aiming to release a remake of it "early next year." Ducharme did confirm that the studio had a proper release date, though it wasn't ready to share it. He explains: "We are confident that we will guarantee the quality of our products, be able to carry out proper polishing, proper commissioning and meet the expectations in our hearts".
Aside from the conversation about the release date of the Dead Space remake, the full hour-long livestream is well worth watching, delving into all areas of the game's behind-the-scenes audio work and providing a surprising preview of how EA Motive built on the sound design of the classic original game for a modern platform. This ranges from enhanced weapon sounds to new systems that manage the protagonist Isaac's physiological responses to his surroundings.
For example, Isaac's heart rate and breathing now rise and fall more naturally depending on his health, fatigue level, and amount of exercise. He even has three different versions of the spoken language so that the player can hear his current state more realistically reflected in his speech.
