It's a huge, difficult game: there are enemies to defeat, there are characters to talk to, and as you crawl across the land between the two, there are many, many items to look for. But knowing every detail of the game beforehand can ruin precious moments where you'll inadvertently discover things that you don't even know the game can do.
These tips won't contain any major spoilers, but they'll still hopefully help you overcome some of the early hurdles. Don't think that every time you encounter a brutal boss, you need to spend hours polishing the runes.
If this were your first soul game, The Old Ring might surprise you early on. Its structure is not like many other soul games, and the way you interact with its NPCs and some other elements is definitely not simple. The following tips won't stop you from getting lost — that's part of the fun — but they'll help you find the tools you need to progress.
1. Choose a good basic course
Veteran Soul players will tell you that it doesn't matter much to start the class. In a sense, it's true: you can build your attributes in any direction, so starting a career is just the beginning, not a choice that locks you into a specific role. This is still the case in the Old Ring, but because the game develops relatively slowly compared to the shorter and smaller Souls games before, your start-up course has a big impact on your first dozen hours.
Use the interpretation options in the menu (E on your keyboard or Y on your controller by default) to read through stats and choose a character that's suitable for melee or casting spells. For new Soul players, I recommend choosing a class like Rangers because of their balanced starting attributes, or heroes, as they emphasize vitality (health) and strength. If you use your sword and shield at the beginning of the game and decide to use magic early on, it's no big deal, but it probably means you'll trade with your boss again after you get stronger. If you really don't like trading with your boss, choose an astrologer. Using powerful magic from a distance can make some battles much easier.
2. Pick up everything
Eldon Ring is an open game, naturally, and it has a craft system. As you gallop between your lands install Torrent, make sure the spam button you use to pick up items as you pass through bushes and flowers. The world is full of herbs that can be picked, so you don't need to go out of your way to picking them, but you should make it a habit to clear a path on the way to your destination. This allows you to craft useful tools such as fire bombs, multiplayer summon items, and arrows.
3. Use stealth
I can't overemphasize it: use an invisible system. The invisible system of Eldon's ring appears to have been plucked from Segillo. When you crouch, enemies can only hear you from how far away they are, and if they do, they will only look at where they last saw you. This means that you can use stealth to hit the backstabbing as you please.
Some parts of the game almost need to sneak as well, so practicing early will help you take off when the time comes.
4. Don't go to the big castle first
Considering that sticking to the critical path is the easiest way to play a lot of games, this may sound like a strange hint. But in Eldon Ring, don't go straight to the big castles or buildings planted at the end of each major area. It's natural to work in a direction that looks like it can move the story forward as quickly as possible, but that's not really the design of the game. If you want a huge challenge, go for it, but the structure of Eldon Ring is more like an open game. The open world is for exploration, doing side quests, defeating mini-bosses, collecting gear and leveling up. Dungeons, or castles, are more like raids with bosses that jump up on difficulty and have multiple stages.
You will be rewarded as you can roam the world for a while and upgrade your flask by collecting useful hunting materials with golden seeds.
5. Prioritize the map fragment icon
Filling out a map of eldon Ring is a great way to start investigating a new location. Even if you want the game to guide you to come into contact with things organically, if you need accurate directions, it's best to make sure you have unlocked map fragments. When you reach a new area between the two places, open the map and look for a stone icon. This will be the location of the map fragment project. They are usually close to the entrance, but sometimes it takes a bit of effort to get there.
Once you have it, it clears the fog from the map and you can see the main roads. You can ignore the map, but if you die and really want to get those runes back, it would be nice to have it around to help you get back to your body.
6. Make sure you don't have heavy gear loads
When you discover new armor or weapons, you may be eager to equip better attributes than before. That's fine, but pay attention to the "Gear Load" details on your character's status bar. Your maximum equipment load is determined by your stamina, and eldon's ring can indicate whether you're light, medium, or heavy based on the armor and weapons you're equipping.
Light or medium load is good: you can dodge rolling faster and farther with more "invincible frames" than heavy loads. 7. Don't be afraid to come back later
The non-linear format of Eldon Ring means you'll run into bosses or enemies who are too difficult for you to deal with. Just like in many other open-world games, you should get used to leaving tough encounters or dungeons for later when you get tougher.

8. Help other players defeat bosses and dungeon farm runes
Other players can help you through many challenges, but if you help them instead, you can win a bundle of risk-free runes for yourself. Use your tarnished furry finger items next to the Dungeon's Grace or in front of the boss's door to have other players summon you into their game world. While you're there, you'll get runes for each enemy you kill, and there's no risk: when you die, you'll go back to your own game, keeping all the runes you've collected.
It's a great way to get other players to summon you, learn mixed experiences with experienced big brothers, and you'll be easy to get through!
9. Use spirit ashes and character summoning
The biggest mistake you might make at Eldon Ring is missing the mental ashes. After opening hours, be sure to find a church site near the first grace (bonfire) site after the tutorial. Go there at night, meet the lady with the big hat, and get the bell from her. If you can't find her, go to the center of the game, the round table area, and buy it from two dead teenage girls
In the open world, there are bosses and enemy groups everywhere, and it is difficult to defeat them if you are not careful, so it is much easier to distract them with AI allies. Whenever you enter a new area or room, check if there is a grave icon at the bottom left of your screen to enable summoning. You can unlock fellow jackals, skeletons, etc. in the game, and be sure to pay attention to the yellow character summoning signs near the boss's door, especially in the first dungeon Storm Veil Castle. You'll need to search around the courtyard area until you find the characters, be careful not to trigger them if you find them. They'll help you fight against the final boss of the zone.
10. Try to use the Blood and Frost skills against strong enemies
The giant bosses of Eldon rings look intimidating, but even more daunting is seeing their health bar stretch across your entire screen — seeing how small their health bar is when you hit them. One way to destroy health faster is to use a weapon that causes bloodshed. Hit an enemy enough times to inflict blood damage, which is 100% counted, and if you're skilled enough, you can deal a huge amount of damage.
You'll find the innate bloody skill on katanas, daggers, and some other weapons, but you can also add it to the ashes of war on some other weapons.
Frost attacks are also very useful: if you accumulate enough Frost on an enemy, they will get frostbitten, which will also deal a certain percentage of damage and reduce their defense for more damage for a while.
