Since the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the United States and Europe have blamed all the responsibility on Russia, and are busy condemning and sanctioning Russia. However, there are still conscientious people in the West, and a member of the European Parliament gave a speech denouncing the "double standards" of the United States and Europe on Ukraine and Afghanistan.
According to the Global Times, the European Parliament recently voted on a Ukraine-related resolution, which condemned Putin for "invading" Ukraine, demanded that Russia immediately withdraw its troops, and hoped to speed up the review of Ukraine's application to join the European Union. However, 13 members of the European Parliament voted against it. Among them, Irish mp Claire Daly asked why people are frantically condemning Russia on Ukraine, but no one mentions Afghanistan, is it only because the Afghan crisis originated from the US invasion.
Daley opposed European military aid to Ukraine, NATO's accelerated involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian situation, increased military spending within the European Union, and a move toward militarism. In her speech, she said that the West's claim that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict was caused by Russia distorts the fact that NATO continues to destabilize the regional situation and is also a factor in the current situation.
In addition, Daly mentioned the war in Afghanistan. She noted that in the "war of the masters," innocent civilians were forced to die, but "Ukraine is not the only one." Daly asked the MEMBERS of the European Parliament present why they did not report on the crisis facing Afghans at the European Parliament meeting, was it just because they were not white-skinned and not Europeans. Or did they suffer because of the U.S. invasion? Or is it because it was the president of the United States who took away the wealth of Afghanistan, not the president of Russia?
Daly's series of questions exposed the Naked "Double Standard" of the West. The U.S. war in Afghanistan has caused a deep disaster for the locals, but today the countries that sanction Russia are not clamoring to sanction the United States. In the situation between Russia and Ukraine, the West put "humanitarianism" on its lips, while in the face of the United States forcibly occupying $7 billion of Afghan property and aggravating the humanitarian crisis in the country, the Western countries have kept their mouths shut, and only Some countries such as China have angrily denounced the "banditry" of the United States at the United Nations. As Daly said, all victims deserve support or the European Parliament will lose credibility.
Earlier, Daly pointed out in an interview with the Global Times that all his positions are based on opposing the EU's "double standard" in dealings with other countries. At the time, she also criticized European parliamentarians who accused China of "human rights" for only wanting to reap political gains, which was very hypocritical, and believed that anti-China sentiment in the European Parliament was carefully planned and instigated. Among the members of the European Parliament who are accustomed to listening to the American arguments, Daley is one of the few wise men.
In fact, for Today's Europe, the situation in Russia and Ukraine has become a huge crisis facing them. On the surface, the West has gained the upper hand in round after round of sanctions against Russia, but it is undeniable that these sanctions will also eat back at the united States and Europe, especially the European people will bear a greater price. If Europe is unable to come up with its own set of solutions in dealing with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict according to its own interests, and blindly obeys the United States, then the so-called strategic autonomy it has been seeking will be reduced to empty talk, and Europe will be completely regarded as a strategic vassal of the United States.
