Strongest ever! Apple M1 Ultra released a 20-core CPU +64-core GPU

At the Apple conference in the early hours of this morning, the M2 chip that fruit fans were looking forward to was not released, but Apple released a more powerful M1 Ultra, which is the fourth member of the Apple M1 family.

The M1 Ultra was built in a bit of a rough and simple way, simply by integrating two M1 Maxes together and almost directly doubling the specifications. Of course, the actual implementation process is not simple, Apple enabled the M1 Max chip in the interconnect module (die-to-die connector), Apple called "Ultra Fusion" technology, so that the interconnection bandwidth of the two chips reached 2.5TB/s, and has more than 10,000 signal points, which can significantly reduce latency and improve efficiency.

With a manufacturing process of the same 5nm, the number of transistors in the M1 Ultra reached 114 billion, which is a very scary number.

In terms of specifications, M1 Ultra integrates 20 CPU cores, including 4 energy efficiency cores and 16 performance cores; each performance core has 192KB instruction cache, 128KB data cache, and a common 48MB L2 cache; each energy efficiency core has 128KB instruction cache, 64KB data cache, and a common 8MB L2 cache.

The number of GPU cores has reached 64, with a total of 8192 execution units, and concurrent threads can support up to 196608, and the theoretical computing power has reached 21TFlops, which is definitely a new generation of clipping artifacts.

The number of neural engines has also reached 32, which can achieve a budget of 22 trillion times per second, and the performance is eight times that of M1.

There is no upgrade to the media engine, which supports 2 video decoding engines, 4 video encoding engines, 4 ProRes codec engines, and supports H.264, H.265, ProRes, ProRes RAW and other codecs.

In terms of performance, Apple said that the M1 Ultra consumes 65% less power at the same performance than the 10-core desktop processor; compared with the 16-core desktop processor, it consumes 100W less power at the same performance and 90% more powerful at the same power consumption.

In terms of GPUs, Apple's so-called M1 Ultra GPU consumes 200W less power than high-end independent GPUs with the same performance, and compared with mainstream independent GPUs, the performance is stronger at the same time, and the power consumption is only 1/3.
