Wei Xiaobao is the most special character in Jin Yong's novels, because his appearance ended Jin Yong's novels. And people like him are much more difficult to deal with than we think.

Jin Yong is different in style from the various leaders of the new martial arts novels. In fact, Jin Yong and their overall understanding of martial arts novels are also qualitatively different, which should be the key to our exploration of why Jin Yong wrote "Deer Ding" and became a literary master.

Other new martial arts novelists "Xin" have made contemporary translations of characters in ancient Chinese society and have their own understandings, but they always feel a bit of a sense of wearing ancient costumes and following the ancient style, but singing modern popular songs.

In order to concretize our feelings, we may wish to paraphrase the example of the modern vernacular translation of the Book of Poetry by the Lord of the Hundred Swords Hall in the Essays on the Three Swords Building. The Master of the Hundred Swords Hall is the modern literati Chen Zizhan, Yu Guanying, and Li Changzhi's commentary on the Book of Poetry: "Jagged vegetables flow left and right; ladies and ladies, covetous and covetous." I can't ask for it, I can't help it; I can't help it; I'm leisurely, tossing and turning", a vernacular translation of a poem.

Translation of Chen Zizhan: Jagged lettuce, go and salvage it. A good woman who is idle and chaste, and her soul also pursues her in her dreams. She can't pursue her, and the lovesickness in the dream soul is more cut. Think of her, think of her! How do you sleep over and over?

Yu Guanying translation: The length of the water lettuce is uneven, and the left and right things are picked. The good girl is slim and pursues her until she dreams. Pursuing her became a fantasy, and I wanted to close my eyes and think. The night long Sauvignon Blanc continued, turning over until dawn.

Li Changzhi's translation: The water is like a streamer, the left side is swayed to the right side, the slim and kind little girl, who is loved in her sleep and dreams. Searching and searching without searching, getting up and lying down and not sleeping, why is the night so long? Turn over until dawn.

It can be seen that all three writers have worked hard to compose their minds. Compared with the Hundred Swords Hall Master, "I feel that Li Yi's image is more, and his feelings are more entangled and warm." Maybe it makes sense. When we read these three translations, it is like reading a martial arts novel, which is very easy and interesting, popular, and not as painstaking as reading the original poem. However, I always feel that it is not a taste, not the "taste" of the original poem.

Gu Long is smarter, and his translation may be more like a quasi-creation; however, although it is more interesting, it is only the addition of "toppings" such as shredded meat and pickles to the clear soup noodles. Gu Long faced the "East of the Self-Uncle, the First is Like a Flying Peng; There is no anointing Mu, who is suitable for rong", which may be like the "translation" in the letter of the modern poet Zhu Xiang to his wife: "Since my husband went to the East, my hair has been as messy as straw." Didn't I have a shampoo plaster to rub my hair and not wash it with water? No— just the same: my husband is out, why should I dress up, which one do I dress up for? ”

Jin Yong, as the ally of the new wuxia novels, of course, also began to translate, but unlike others, he only stayed in translation (or creative translation). He wants to achieve a creative transformation of tradition.

Sima Qian

The Biography of Jin Yong (Laurel Studio Edition) is insightfully believed to be Sima Qian's first creative transformation of the pre-Qin Rangers. In the pre-Qin Dynasty, chivalrous consciousness generally referred to "not doing the right thing, serving the powerful, lawlessness, bravery and fierceness", and Sima Qian classified these rangers into the "Assassin Biography". In the "Legend of the Rangers", Sima Qian's understanding of the hero is:

Man

"First, living in the folk, they are people in the lu alleys of the city; second, such people speak honestly, do things resolutely and thoroughly, promise thousands of dollars, and sacrifice their lives and forget their deaths; third, they do not form gangs and gangs, bully the lonely and weak, and bully people; fourth, they do not succeed in their achievements, and they do not seek fame and fortune."

From the early to the middle period, Jin Yong's martial arts novels were ambitiously inheriting and sublimating Sima Qian's chivalrous tradition, and finally carried forward this tradition in Xiao Feng ("Eight Steps of the Heavenly Dragon"), especially Guo Jing ("The Legend of the Eagle Hero"), that is, "for the country and the people, the great hero". Xiao Feng and Guo Jing are both clothed heroes, who should be on the fringes of society and history; but also like Yuan Chonghuan in the Ming Dynasty, they have gone from performing heroic deeds on the rivers and lakes and helping people in distress, to defending the Khitan for the country and the people, stationing in Xiangyang to resist the Yuan, they have walked from the edge to the center, from the rivers and lakes to the country, becoming truly heroes respected by all the people.

It should be admitted that "The Legend of the Archery Hero" is the peak and representative work of the creation of the new martial arts novel, but it is not enough to represent Jin Yong's creative achievements.
