After 36 days, the 2021 spring outdoor stage performance season of SAIC Shanghai Culture Square came to an end. The performance season brought 13 performances in the three major sections of "Musical Theater Actors Concert", "Outdoor Drama Night" and "Parent-Child Carnival", attracting a total of 4071 viewers.

During the epidemic last year, when the red line of 30% attendance of the theater has not yet been broken, SAIC Shanghai Culture Square has opened up ideas, transferred outdoors, and explored new performance forms. Colorful outdoor performances, paired with food stalls and trendy and interesting cultural markets, open up the situation for the dormant performing arts industry.

Nowadays, the normalization of epidemic prevention and control has restored the attendance rate of Shanghai theater to 100%, but the outdoor stage performance season of Cultural Square has become a brand and continues to this day, and the patterns are constantly renovated. In the spring 2021 outdoor performance season, a new section "Outdoor Drama Night" was launched, and the campus drama clubs of Shanghai Theater Academy, Fudan University and Nanjing University moved their original four award-winning works to the outdoor performance space, attracting a total of 1,029 audiences.

The Peking opera "Miss Zhu Li" and the rhyme drama "Mr. Zhu Li" produced by the Performing Arts Center of Shanghai Theater Academy are based on the masterpiece "Miss Zhu Li", the father of modern drama, Strindberg, and integrate Western drama programs with Eastern opera, triggering reflections on topics such as gender and class.

Fudan Drama Club's drama "Seed Paradise" recounts the story of The Seed Hero Professor Zhong Yang, showing that the people who govern the school have the vision and mind of the world. The Nanjing University Master of Arts Theater Troupe staged the original drama "The World", conveying the philosophical ingenuity of "between the world and the world of life, suddenly like a long-distance traveler".

The creators of the "Outdoor Drama Night" also gathered with many friends who love and pay attention to stage art at the Duoyun Academy Drama Shop to share their practices and insights in the field of drama with the audience.

The "Musical Theater Actors Concert" section, from the first two seasons of "Musical Theater Actors Double Concert" and "Sisters Musical Theater Party", to this season's "Musical Theater Boys' Dormitory" and "Actors' Spring Camp", through the change of performance lineup and the upgrading of themes, brings the audience new ways of playing and experiencing. Three performances in this section attracted 1943 spectators. Among them, musical theater actor Liu Lingfei's "Wild Road" Concert" was performed on the large lawn, and Liu Lingfei completed a romantic encounter in the wind with the audience.

"Little White Family Carnival"

On the outdoor stage, children can also find their own world. The "Little White Parent-Child Carnival", which has been held for seven years, has planned 4 stages with 7 performances and 16 art activities. A guitar, a steel scaffolding, and the simplest sets can also collide with sparks. A wealth of activities such as markets, art education workshops, and exhibitions provide children with a complete theater art experience. The Parent-Child Carnival extends the interactive space of the performance to the audience, encouraging two-way communication between parents and children and the active expression of children.

After half a year, The Market has returned to the space of more than 6,000 square meters in the Cultural Square. The 192 creative brand booths attracted more than 12,000 people in one weekend. The Guyue Market creates an oriental aesthetic space in the city where a poetic dwelling is located.
