After the acquisition of Motorola, the situation is deteriorating, and now Lenovo has launched a 4,000 yuan mobile phone, who will pay?

After years of indulgence, Lenovo has recently released a new mobile phone.

At the end of February, Lenovo held a rescuer assembly 2022 savior ecological spring new product conference, at which Lenovo released the rescuer Y90 e-sports mobile phone, the first price of 3999 yuan, 4299 yuan, 4999 yuan.

After the acquisition of Motorola, the situation is deteriorating, and now Lenovo has launched a 4,000 yuan mobile phone, who will pay?

It can be seen that this phone is mainly positioned in e-sports mobile phones, and it is said to be equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as the new Snapdragon 8, the new RAM+ROM frame, and the Frost Blade M heat dissipation system.

So after Lenovo launched this mobile phone, can it be recognized by the market? Will consumers buy? For this question, we can not give an accurate answer, the so-called radish greens have their own love, although the current reputation of lenovo is not very good, but perhaps it still has some iron powder.

But at least from the perspective of Chinese consumers, I believe that many people will not spend four or five thousand yuan to buy an e-sports mobile phone, if you really have four or five thousand yuan, you can buy some of the top brands of mobile phones on the market, such as Apple, Huawei, OPPO, vivo, millet and so on.

Of course, if the response of this e-sports mobile phone is better in the end, we do not rule out that some e-sports enthusiasts may be willing to pay for them.

In addition, from the history of Lenovo's mobile phone and the current situation of Lenovo, I personally feel that even if they launch such a professional e-sports mobile phone, I think it is impossible to return to the original peak.

Everyone knows that Lenovo is doing computers, and the main business at present is to rely on computers, but many people may not know that six or seven years ago, Lenovo mobile phones were also relatively hot in the market.

As early as 2002, Lenovo began to make mobile phones, and also set a number of domestic firsts, such as the launch of the first domestic self-developed GSM mobile phone, the first support TD-SCDMA3G mobile phone, the first 40 chord mobile phone G808, the first computer mobile phone ET180, the first domestic million pixel camera phone, the first domestic TD TV mobile phone, and so on.

In the 2G and 3G era, Lenovo's status in domestic mobile phones is still relatively high.

For example, in 2009, in the context of the domestic mobile phone market being occupied by many foreign brands, Lenovo's mobile phone sales squeezed into the top 10, ranking eighth.

In 2010, Lenovo mobile phone officially launched Android smartphones, although the response at the beginning was not very good, but from 2011 to 2013, Lenovo mobile phone sales are still relatively considerable.

In 2012, Lenovo's mobile phone shipments exceeded 30 million units, of which 500,000 units were sold in overseas markets, and Lenovo has become the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the Chinese market after Samsung.

By 2013, Lenovo's mobile phone sales had risen further, with annual mobile phone shipments exceeding 45 million units.

Because of such a performance, Yang Yuanqing said at the time that "surpassing Samsung Electronics to become the largest smartphone manufacturer in China is the company's clear ambition."

And to do it, in 2014, Lenovo directly spent $2.9 billion to acquire Motorola in the United States, relying on the sales contributed by Motorola, ranking first in more than 90 million units in Lenovo's global shipments that year, and ranking third in the world.

After acquiring Motorola, Lenovo can be said to be full of ambition and is moving towards China's largest smartphone manufacturer.

However, after the acquisition of Motorola, everything did not develop as smoothly as Lenovo said.

On the one hand, before the acquisition of Motorola, Motorola itself had many problems, as the inventor of mobile phones, the former Motorola can be said to be very brilliant, but also recognized by many consumers around the world.

However, since 2006, Motorola has begun to enter a stage of ups and downs of development, from betting on the Android platform to revival, to splitting and being acquired by Google, and then to being acquired by Lenovo, Motorola does not have a stable development environment at all.

And after being acquired by Lenovo, some of the core figures in Motorola's mobile phone department, including CEO, chief designer, and jim Wicks, the soul of the design department, have resigned.

After the resignation of these core figures, Motorola basically only has a brand shell, has no soul, although there are many mobile phone patents, but if the technological innovation is weak, it is still unable to adapt to the development of the market.

On the other hand, after the acquisition of Motorola, Lenovo's domestic market environment has also undergone great changes.

Especially after operators reduced subsidies for mobile phones in 2014, Lenovo, which relies on carrier channel sales, has been hit hard.

After the operator channel was heavily affected, Lenovo was also like a fly that could not find a direction, and it has launched a lot of mobile phones, but none of them have a clear positioning.

Moreover, other domestic mobile phone manufacturers have embraced the Internet, have adapted to the needs of consumers, and launched a background that can meet market demand, Lenovo is also addicted to its own world.

Eventually, for various reasons, Lenovo's mobile phone development is becoming more and more unsatisfactory, and Lenovo's mobile phone shipments have also been declining.

By 2015, Lenovo's global mobile phone shipments had fallen to 74 million units, further to 53.1 million units in 2016, to 49.7 million units in 2017, to 38.8 million units in 2018, and to pick up in 2019, with global shipments of 39.6 million units.

After 2020, as for the sales volume of Lenovo mobile phones, no specific data has been found, because it has been classified into Other.

However, from the performance of 2021, it seems that Lenovo Motorola mobile phones have signs of recovery, of which in the fourth quarter of 2021, Lenovo Motorola mobile phones achieved double-digit growth, of which Motorola shipped 14.9 million units in Q4, compared with the same period last year, the growth rate was as high as 54%, and in Q4 2021, Lenovo Motorola's market share in North America still reached 13.1%.

I estimate that this is also the bottom line for Lenovo to launch e-sports mobile phones, although the performance of Lenovo mobile phones in the past few years is not ideal, but their performance in foreign markets is still decent, especially Motorola's brand effect still exists, so Lenovo still has great hopes for the future mobile phone market.

However, according to the current reputation of Lenovo in China, I estimate that whether it is the launch of e-sports mobile phones or ordinary smart phones, it is basically impossible to regain the trust of the market in the short term.

In the future, Lenovo mobile phones can be recognized by the market, and the key depends on what measures Lenovo takes to repair the trust of the market.
