Ethan Joseph is a proud Tesla customer and a pre-orderer for the Ford F-150 Lightning. Before ordering the Model X Plaid, he already owned three Tesla electric cars. At the time of delivery, he was surprised to find that the SUV had a different set of tires: the front axle was summer Michelin Latitude Sport 3 tires and the rear axle was the all-season Continental Crosscontact LX Sport.
Although it is thought that different tire sets can be used, as long as they use the same model on each axle and have the same dimensions, this is not the case. Summer tires have more grip than all-season tires. On top of that, the Tesla Model X is an all-wheel drive car. Differences in traction can cause the car to slip, especially at high speeds.
Joseph shared his experience on Twitter, however he found that he was not the only one who had such an experience. In a Reddit post, a Tesla Model Y Performance has different tires on the driver's side and passenger side!

Delivered in this way, these tires represent a greater risk of problems. Differences in traction will make the car more difficult to control when accelerating sharply and is very dangerous in wet and slippery conditions or rainy days. Hybrid tyres on the same axle is a mistake and can cost a lot. Receiving a brand new car in this case is inexcusable.
The Tesla Service Center told Joseph that they had never seen this before. Users on Reddit heard similar excuses. For Joseph, this is impossible. According to another tweet, he refused delivery. Ironically, he has already ordered doormats for his new car. They were not returned.
